My family and I stand
On the porch
In front of our house
Where Dada will leave
To go to his mysterious work.My siblings and I look
Up at Dada
And he bends down
To look us in the eyes
So he can talk to us.Around his neck I can see
The black string that carries
A sliver of gray metal
The one I gave to him
The first time he left.On the same black string
There is also an old coin
Strung through a hole
Little brother Ben gave it to him
Two years ago.All those years ago
Dada told us that
The coin and the metal
Had pieces of magic inside of them
Protective magic.He said that's why
He was now invicible
Because now ZiZi was giving him
A tiny key.Dada has three pieces
Of protective magic, now:
My piece of gray metal
Brother Ben's old rusty coin
Sister Zizi's key.Dada will come home
Safe.
