Grandma Marie drove up to the open iron gates that stood in front of the huge, castle-like building that was my new school. Anna Marie was starting today as well and sent me a text earlier this morning wishing me good luck.
There were guards at the gate. They approached Grandma Marie's car and asked her to show them our ID's.
She slid down her window and showed them her driver's license and told them my name and that I was a new student. They waved her on and focused on the next car approaching.
The parking lot in front of the school was packed from people parking their cars and heading up to the school building. I watched everyone closely, my heart racing so fast it was all I could hear.
There were two other students dressed in similar uniforms as me but everyone else wore casual clothes. Like at my other school, people talked and laughed, gathering in groups and filing into the building, carrying books, backpacks and purses. At a glance, everyone looked like normal human teenagers.
Grandma Marie pulled up to the curb at the sidewalk that led to the school and parked. She gazed over at me with a wide smile.
"This is it. You're first day."
I felt like I was going to explode at any second.
"I'm excited but I'm so nervous," I said as I gazed out the window at the other students.
She patted my leg. "You're going to be fine. Everything will be fine, don't worry about a thing."
I opened the door and gathered all of my things.
"I'll be picking you up today," she said as I got out.
"What about work?"
"You get off around my break, so it's not a big deal."
I frowned. "What time am I out?"
"Twelve forty-five. Your schedule will explain it better. Now go on and have a great day."
"I love you."
"I love you too, sweetie."
I closed the door and waved as she drove off. I felt the butterflies in my stomach increase as her car faded from view.
Helen and Johnny, as usual, were with me, which helped but my nerves were still shot.
I took a deep breath as I stared up at the huge, gothic school that loomed over me.
"Here goes nothing," I muttered under my breath before heading towards the school entrance.
I looked around to see if I could spot Anna Marie or Savannah, but I didn't see them anywhere. I wished they were around so I didn't feel so alone in this crowd.
I walked shoulder to shoulder with other supernaturals. Despite being in such close proximity with each other and us all trying to file into the school building, no one was pushing or shoving, everyone was walking at a normal pace and at an orderly fashion. Huh. At my old school, I'd be pushed in every direction and would just about knock a bitch over when they wouldn't quit elbowing me.
I followed the throng of students into a lobby, where there were three stations with the sign student's report here labeled on them. There were lines made for each station, all of them incredibly long.
