"Miss Johnson, you need to wake up."

I snapped my eyes open to the sound of Mr. Erikson's voice close to my ear. I lifted my head. He was kneeling beside my desk, peering at me with concern in his eyes.

"Are you alright?" he asked as I straightened in my seat and stretched.

I frowned as I gazed around the now empty classroom. "I'm fine, but what happened? Did I fall asleep?"

He grinned. "Big time. Class has been out for almost ten minutes. I've been trying to wake you up."

I groaned from embarrassment, face burning. I couldn't believe I'd managed to embarrass myself in this school two days in a row.

"I'm really sorry," I apologized. I stood up and began packing up my things. "I have no idea what happened. I was fine one moment and then -"

"It's just a part of your Awakening Phase," Mr. Erikson and stood up as well.

"How did you know -"

"Your file said you were still going through your Awakening Phase. I know all about sorceresses going through Awakening Phase and I know how hard it can be. While I'm not a sorcerer, I do know what they go through when they're having their Phases and it does sound like it's very draining. Your body is still trying to adapt to all these changes."

I glanced around the room and saw Helen and Johnny staring at me in concern. I noted they both looked even more transparent than usual and both looked scared shitless. It seemed more than just being concerned for me, it was as though they either heard or saw something that caused them to be absolutely terrified. I would ask them when I stepped out; I didn't want to talk to them in front of my teacher.

"I'll write you a note to class," Mr. Erikson said and patted my shoulder gently. "If you need anything, just let me know."

"Thank you, Mr. Erikson."

"It's Professor Erikson," he corrected.

I watched him walk over to his desk, grab a piece of paper, and start writing on it.

I turned to Helen and Johnny. Johnny was looking at Helen with a concerned look in her eyes, and she wasn't looking at any of us, her eyes downcast, staring at her feet.

I frowned. She had a guilty expression on her face. What was going on with her?

"Here you go," Professor Erikson said, interrupting my train of thought. He was holding out the note to me.

"Thank you," I said and shot him a smile.

"I'll see you on Thursday," he said and sat behind his desk.

"See you," I called back and walked out into the hallway.

The hallway was completely empty and clear, not a single person in sight. My footsteps echoed in the hallway and all the doors were closed, apparently classes were in session. I decided to wait to ask Helen what was going on. I had a feeling if I spoke, everyone in the building would be able to hear it and I did not want my conversation to be heard by everyone else.

The next three classes breezed by and before I knew it, it was time for lunch. For Tuesdays and Thursdays, I had B lunch. I wondered if I would see different people.
