Travis' POV:
When we get to Grey-Sloan Dr. Grey and Dr. Schmitt meet us at the front desk. She takes us back to a room and closes the door.
Meredith: Hey guys, Andy called me before you got here. So what happened?
Travis: My sister got beat up at school, she's got some bad bruising, a knife wound, a second degree burn, and some smaller cuts.
Meredith: A knife wound? This happened at school?
Travis: Yeah.
Meredith: Alright, Hartley I'm gonna have Dr. Schmitt here examine you while I talk to Travis in the hallway. Hughes can stay if you want.
Hartley: Yeah.
Levi: Alright, let's see what we've got here.
I follow Dr. Grey into the hall and close the door behind me.
Meredith: Montgomery, I'm gonna need you to tell me the full story here. What happened to her?
Travis: There's a few boys at her school that have been bullying her for a while. Today they cornered her in the hallway and beat her up. They stepped on her, poured boiling water on her, and one of them had a pocket knife.
Meredith: Travis, you know I have to report this. There will have to be an investigation, those boys and the school have to answer for what they did to her. Especially because a knife was involved.
Travis: I know. I hate that this happened to her. I couldn't protect her when we were younger, and I promised her I would now, and look what happened. God, I've screwed up so bad she probably hates me by now. I'm a horrible brother.
I can't breathe anymore, I feel pressure behind my eyes and before I know it I'm having a panic attack. Meredith grabs my arm and drags me to a storage closet. She grabs my shoulders and makes me look at her.
Meredith: Travis. Hey, look at me. You're okay. Hartley's okay. Levi's gonna take good care of her. You did the right thing. You protected her. There was no way you could have known what was going to happen today. It's not your fault. Hey, you need to calm down. Breathe with me. Deep breath in. And out. And in. And out.
I copy her breathing until I calm down. I wipe my eyes.
Meredith: You okay now?
Travis: Yeah. Thank you.
Meredith: No problem. Now you go back in there and be with her, and I'm gonna call the police.
Travis: Okay.
We leave the storage closet and I go back into Hartley's room while Meredith goes to the nurses station. When I get into the room I see Hartley sitting next to Vic on the exam table, her head on Vic's shoulder as Dr. Schmitt cleans and dresses her burns. Vic sees me and motions for me to join them. I sit on the other side of Hartley and she grabs my hand with her not burned hand. I hold her hand as tight as I can without hurting her and lay my head on her shoulder, kissing her head every now and then. After a few minutes, Dr. Schmitt is done dressing her burn and looks up at us.
Levi: Alright Hartley, I'm gonna need to stitch up your arm now, okay? I'm gonna give you a numbing shot, so you won't feel anything.
He gives her the shot, and she readjusts herself so she's sitting on my lap with her left arm towards Levi and her face in my chest. I wrap my arms around her, underneath her arm, and Vic grabs her other hand, scooting closer so her head is on my shoulder. I hear her whispering to Hartley.
Vic: Why didn't you fight back?
Hartley: I didn't want to get in trouble for escalating the situation.
