I woke up by a blood curling scream, jerking me awake terrified. I shakily got out of bed not knowing what to do. I then hear banging on the door with a frantic voice telling me to let them in. Something was telling me to stay away but, I went to see who was there at the peep hole.

A short blonde hair girl stood at the door and continued banging on it. Her hair was short and her eyes were ruby red. A vampire. In a flash of darkness and another spine shaking scream she was gone. I jerked myself from the door startled. I then looked back out.

Ashlen, Alec, stood there with another unknown man with his hair neatly combed and a black full on suit.  “I’m terribly sorry about that Miss. Makenzie and Mr. Lakes.” He had a thick accent that I didn’t recognize.

Alec scoffs and stares at the door like he knows I am watching them. Ashlen just forced a smile. “It’s okay Barren.” Barren held the girl in his arms, limp almost as if she was dead.

“Like, I said she is trouble.”

“They all are.”

Barren looked at the door at me, in curiosity. Alec cleared his throat. “Mr. Lakes I didn’t know you were interested in pets.” Barren states.

“We don’t use that term in the states.” Alec says coolly. Pet?

“Shall we go back down stairs?” Ashlen suggests changing the subject quickly.

“Okay.” Barren says and he walks off with her.

Alec looks at me. “Go back to sleep Tiffany.”

I pull back from the door startled again. I hear chuckling and his footsteps disappear down the hall way.

I shook my head and after minutes of staring at the stars I fell back asleep. I woke up got dressed, showered, and found Alec sitting on my bed like he usually does. I stayed by the closed door like I usually do. He took me down to eat breakfast. After he led me up the first flight of the stairs going to through the door.

It was like a giant library and the book shelf where high enough to touch the ceilings. They had ladders to reach the top shelves. Alec grabbed my arm guiding me through the shelves in the middle tables and bean bag chairs were set around while individuals were playing board games, reading, or just chatting.

He pulled me past the library to a separate room. That looked into a room full of mats, targets, etc. On the separate wall was a wide range of different sets of weapons. The place looked like a training room of some sorts. He didn’t stop to explain anything just took me down the dark hall way opening a door with a key.

Inside was a simple office. There was a dark wooden desk with a nice laptop. Two black chairs sat in front of the desk. He went behind the desk sitting down. I didn’t want to stand there awkwardly like I usually do so, I sat in one of the black chairs. He didn’t say anything, he remained silent the whole time.

I looked at the necklace I put on today that matched my ring. The pedant was given to me after my father died along with the ring. The ring was silver with branches wrapping around it. The necklace was silver as well. The pedant was a silver plate with a pair of white wings with a red rose in the middle. A purple stone about two inches wide sat behind it with wires holding the plate and stone together.

I sat there bored and even got up wandering around the office. The file cabinets in the corner. The first one was labeled ‘vampire’, the second ‘warlock/witch’, ‘fey’, and the last one was labeled ‘rare’. I furrowed my brows and decided against opening it and just asked. “Why is this one labeled rare?”

“Rare: people who think they are human but, most likely have a long distance family member with magical blood and have unique capabilities that they don’t understand.”

“What exactly do you do here? What’s the purpose of having all these different… beings here?”

He sighs typing away at his keyboard for what seems forever, he stops. After clicking his mouse a few times he turns to look at me. “This mansion was originally a place where young huntresses or hunters came to learn how to hunt vampires, dark fey, and almost anything they considered ‘evil’. Well ironically, after Ashlen and I owned the place we turned it into one of the ‘schools’ sort of.  We help vampires to blend in and to feed without killing a person. We teach fey to hide their powers and blend in. Teach a witch how not to burn an apartment building down after she figures out her spouse cheated on her. And so on. We help evil not be so well evil.”

I nodded. “That’s neat.” He nods. Then went back to typing and clicking. “You have the fey here… and vampires with witches, warlocks. What about werewolves? Are they real.”

He rolls his eyes. “They are real. They are nothing but a pack of dogs. Nothing matters accept the pack. They will attempt to kill any of us at first sight, just because we are blood drinking creatures that are a spawn from hell.” I then fell silent.

I sat back down and continued to study my necklace. The girl came to the office giving me a small plate with a sub on it and left. After I finished Alec got up shutting his computer down and I followed him out.

I followed him down the stair case to greet the man I saw last night through the peep hole in my door. They talked about the girl and files. Barren made sure to apologies once again. He looks at me. “I also am sorry Tiffany for waking you up last night.” I just nodded slightly. Alec and Barren said their goodbyes to each other before Barren left.

Alec then took me out side and we walked a shorter path in the woods today compare to yesterday. After the sun set we went back inside, ate, and I went back to my room reading till I fell asleep. The rest of the week we stayed in Alec’s office for the first half of the days and outside the other half. One day we sat down on a fallen tree in a hidden garden with roses surrounding the once fallen tree. Shrubs and other flowers carefully placed sat around us. All the plants followed the colors of green, white, purple, and blue.
