Hello my lovely people, so this is the first chapter to my new book What Matters Most. If you've read my other books you would say they absolutely suck, especially my first one which I wrote in seventh grade. Oh Lord it's awful, so it's not available to read anymore because I dont want you guys to read that terrible writing and not want to read this book. But I assure you this one will be way better, I promise. Anyway also check out Sweeter Than Fiction written by Sarah Acebo, but it's on this account. Furthermore... enjoy the first chapter of my book. :)

Chapter One: Ryder's POV

"Mom I'll be fine, really."

"I know, I know. Just be safe ok?"

I internally groaned," Ok mother..."

"Im serious Ryder please dont get in trouble, we dont want to repeat last year."

"Mom. I got it. It's High School not prison."

Except this time I wont get let out for good behavior, I thought to myself. I hugged her once more before sliding my navy blue back pack over my shoulders, kissing my baby sister on the head quickly and making my way out the door.

This sucks ass man.

I mean I understand why we moved. I guess living in that God Forsaken town brought back too many memories that my mom just could'nt cope with. I dont mind though, it's not like I was leaving anything or anyone important back in New York. I was starting fresh here in Westfield. Although I know what happens in small towns like these.

Nothing.

Boring people, boring town, boring lifestyle of close minded ignorant people. Although I can't blame them for their stupidity, afterall it's all they've ever known.

The school finally came into view, I deeply sighed inhaling the stench of teenage desperation. Students littered the courtyard, you could immediatley distinguish who was who in this school. It literally felt like Janice Ian from Mean Girls was pointing out all the cliques in the lunchroom to Cady.

I walked past some snotty senior girls who gave me some pretty nasty glares. I just rolled my eyes to myself, this year was already going super well.

Note the sarcasm.

I walked around a bit, watching freshmen wonder the hallways with their giant ass back packs and schedules in hand looking more like they were on a hunt for treasure rather than their first class. It was quite a sight really. The bell rang and the hallways quickly cleared, man these high schoolers were punctual. I ran my fingers through my long dirty blonde hair, looking around, my bottom lip in between my teeth.

"Hey you!" I turned to the source of the yelling to find an old angry looking man. He quickly ran up to me grabbing my arm forcefully.

"Did you not hear the bell, it case you did'nt realise that means you are late... on the first day of school."

I frowned to myself, he yanked me into a random classroom. I wonder if he knew of me already, the whole class turned to look at me as I was being dragged by the stubby older man.

"You're new student was wondering the halls."

Some annoying girls snickered in the front row.

Great. Late on the first day, my mom's going to be overjoyed when she finds out this accomplishment.

"Take a seat next to that boy over there..."

"Ryder." I told him firmly.

"Ryder." He repeated, tasting the name out on his tongue. I made my way over to my seat next to a boy with chestnut curls. He smiled up at me dimples caving into the sides of his cheeks sweetly. I smiled curtly throwing my back pack onto the table a little too harshly and sliding into my seat. I could feel the whole class stare at me, their judgmental glares burn holes into my head. The teacher begun speaking again.
