It was during the first veiw weeks of varsity that the rumors popped up. I was having dinner with a group that I call my dinner freinds. I enjoyed talking to them and wanted to be their freinds but couldn't quiet figure out how. So each night we got together ate our food and discussed everything and nothing taking a break from the monotony of our lifes. It was here as I casually sat eating chicken that I first heard the question: "Have you heard of the virus?" asked not with fear or nervousness but with curiosity. I hadn't heard of it and as it turned out some of the group hadn't either.
At this point there was a lot of misinformation as rumors spread across the table-it was in a lot of countries?- it was only in one country?- it was just a flue?- it wasnt a flue at all?. We didnt really know what it was, only that it was something, something lurking sneaking up on us day by day. So I went back to my room and Googled it and became afraid.
Trying to figure out what was fact amongst pages of speculation and fear was difficult. Even The experts hadn't named it yet.
Desperstely hoping for some information and comfort I ended up calling my parents to ask them about it. This wasn't a good Idea. I just ended up scaring my mother who hadn't yet heard of it. My father wasnt much help either. He had heard some whispers about it but ultimately wasn't very concerned as usual. By this stage I just wanted comfort and some reassurance of what this was. So I called my brother knowing deep down that he wouldn't provide much comfort but that he would provide information and reason. He thankfully had heard of it and his calm logical approach was the reassurance I needed.
As the days dragged on this nameless virus floated around in almost every conversation. People had mixed opinions about it. Some saw it as a big joke, poking fun at it, carelously laughing at those who feared it. Some feared it and spread their fear with their speculations. Some wrote it off as a conspiracy theory not bothering with the facts. Some ignored it believing it is nothing more than just a bad flue.
