SEVEN YEARS AGO, Klaus, Elijah, Kol, Rebekah and Finn Mikaelson all sacrificed themselves in order to take down the Hollow, separating Inadu's spirit between the five siblings to save Hope's life. They were forced to split from each other, sacrificing the thousand year old vow 'always and forever' to save the life of the little girl.
The day that the Mikaelsons sacrificed themselves was a day nobody could ever forget and certainly not Evelyn Mikaelson. Ever since the siblings went their separate ways the brunette didn't stop trying to find a way to get her whole family back together. Of course she still had contact with them, mostly Kol, but knew she wouldn't stop until they were reunited again.
In the first years Evelyn also held contact with Klaus, to see how he was doing, but the Hybrid quickly began to descend into madness. The fact that he couldn't raise his daughter or see his siblings tore at his soul until there was barely anything left. He broke contact with Evelyn and everyone else, he made excuses not to see Hayley, Evelyn or even Hope and removed himself out of their lives. He stopped sending birthday cards and presents for the twins a year ago and stopped writing letters to Evelyn.
And as the years went by and New Orleans was filled again with peace and prosperity like it once was, thanks to Vincent, Hayley, Josh, Freya, Lucien and Evelyn. However, Evelyn Mikaelson was putting a lot of pressure on herself lately, she was trying to find a way to reunite her family again together with her sister Freya, she helped Lucien with his company, she became the faction leader of the vampires with some help of Josh and was the mother of two very powerful seven-year-old kids, the aunt of an powerful fifteen-year-old teenager who thought her father hated her...Her life was more of a struggle now than ever before.
Rosalie and Henrik were now seven and both were aware with the things that were happening around them, including the words spoken about their family, mostly the words that were spoken about their apparently psychopathic villain of an uncle aka Klaus Mikaelson. They didn't know which rumors were true, but they knew their cousin was close to the edge of breaking and eventually after the incident at the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted five years ago, she had slowly turned away from her father.
When Hope left New Orleans seven years ago with Hayley she went to the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted in Mystic Falls and had stayed there since. One day Hope went to perform a spell to see her dad and when she succeeded in finding him, but the image of seeing her father for the person he truly was, to get answers why he refused to answer any of her calls was scarred in her brain for life. She found Klaus covered from head to toe in blood as he was surrounded by dead bodies before he told her to get out.
