The sun rose slowly that morning. The weather was weirdly warm and the birds sang sweet melodies. Through the windows of the girls, dorm were fishes swimming out from inside their homes to greet the dawn.
Sophia lay in her bed and dreamed a sweet dream. A dream where she did not exist in the memories of the press and her parents didn't crush her with the undying weight of the expectations her heritage bestowed upon her.
"GOOD MORNING!"
Sophia sat up in her bed and gasped in fear.
Daphne was standing at the centre of their room with a hairbrush in her hands. "THE YULE BALL IS TONIGHT!"
Sophia and Ismelda looked at each other through blurred tired eyes before turning back to the lunatic in her pyjamas.
"Can you keep it down so I don't go to the ball with eye bags?" Ismelda groaned as she sank her head face flat into her pillow.
"I second that notion," Sophia yawned and went back to sleep. Or well, she attempted to.
"WE NEED TO GET READY!" Daphne yelled once more before correcting her tone to one that would not deem the entire Slytherin house to hearing loss. "I have it all planned out. We shall start by-" she rambled on and on about their schedule and all the things they must do in order to ensure they make the most out of their day.
Sophia loved Daphne but she loved sleep more, and thus, everything she said became white noise.

The girls began to get ready. With Daphne's excessive schedule they spent an exceptional number of hours pampering themselves.
In her dress, Sophia sat on her vanity and began casting the spell for her hair. Her waves became more defined and pushed to the back with decorative pins, leaving her side bangs to frame her face. She did her make up lightly, highlighting her already elegant features as her mother had taught her to. Wearing her painful but beautiful heels she declared herself ready.
An owl perched itself on the window, which was weird considering the Slytherin common room was underwater. How did the owl get in?
Removing the letter and box from the bird Sophia watched it fly out of her room through the door.
"What is that?" Daphne asked as she continued to work on the spells she was casting to try different hairstyles.
"I think it might be my parents. I wrote to them the day after Draco asked me to the ball. They must've gotten to reading it."
It was not uncommon for her parents to reply to her letters late. They were always working.
Opening the letter she read her mother's and fathers letter.
Dear Sophia,
We are ecstatic to hear about your date to the ball. We've already started arranging more events with the Malfoy family to ensure you and Draco are able to spend more time together.
We can not describe our happiness! We are so proud of you, darling!
Attached to this letter is a box containing a necklace and earring set that has been in this family for generations. It is priceless so do not lose it.
Lots of love,
Your parents.Sophia opened the jewellery box and looked in awe at the silver and diamond creation before her.
