"Kageyama! Wait up!" An orange-haired shorty shouted as he raced down the hall to meet up with his friend. Kageyama turned his head and watched as the bounding tangerine made his way to him in no time. "Wanna eat breakfast with me?" Hinata asked cheerfully.

The dark-haired male frowned at him in an attempt to hide his light blush. "No way. You've been fine eating with that dude from Nekoma, so just eat with him." Kageyama turned his head away angrily.

"Pfft! Are you jealous!? Fine, fine. If you wanted me to eat with you so bad, you could've just told me! Let's go!" Before Kageyama could refute, Hinata grabbed his hand and pulled him at a quicker pace towards the cafeteria of the motel.

-----

"Dumbass, how'd you get rice on your nose?" Kageyama asked, wiping the grain from Hinata's face with his jacket sleeve. The tangerine laughed timidly. "Haha, I'm a bit of a messy eater," The short male answered.

A ringing sounded from Hinata's pocket at that moment, and he pulled his phone out. "Ah, it's my mom!" Briskly, the orange-haired male answered it. "Hello?" Kageyama watched Hinata's face carefully. "Oh! Natsu! How've you been!?"

A large, bright smile spread across Hinata's face, his loudness alerting some of the players in the cafeteria. "I've been good! Is Mom doing okay? You're not causing her a lot of trouble, are you?" After a little pause, Hinata laughed.

"That's good then. Pfft, haha! I figured you had done tha- Wah? No fair! Save me some!" A pout made its way to his lips. "But that's my favorite flavor!" The small male played with his jacket zipper. "Oh, hi Mom! Natsu told me she took your phone, haha!"

"She told me about that too! How could you guys get ice cream without me!? I thought we were family!" A playful laugh escaped the little crow. He glanced at Kageyama and his eyes lit up for a reason unknown to the dark-haired male.

"Well then, Kageyama and I will go get ice cream after our practice matches today! Right, Kageyama!?" Hinata turned to him, holding a thumbs up. "Boke, I never agreed to-" The little crow turned away, nervous sweat dripping down his cheek.

"Yep! And I had been meaning to ask-" All of a sudden, his mom could be heard crying. Alarmed, the orange-haired male stood up from his seat. "Mom! What's wrong!? Are you okay!?" He began to walk out of the cafeteria once he felt their conversation would be getting a little more private.

"Oh, Shouyou. I couldn't tell you earlier because Natsu was in the room, but your grandmother is in the hospital right now. She's having trouble breathing, and the doctors have her on life support."

More sobbing could be heard on the phone, but it sounded like a distant ringing to Hinata. His knees gave out beneath him, resulting in him falling onto them. "What-What do you mean, Mom? You're not making sense..."

"She's not going to make it, Shouyou. I wanted to hold off from telling you until you got back from your camp, but I just heard your voice and-"

His mother was cut off by a sob passing her lips.

"I know you two were close when you were younger. I'm sure this is very hard for you-"

"I-I have to go, Mom. I'll talk to you later, I love you." Before she could protest, the tangerine hung up the phone before letting his tears fall. The last thing he wanted was for his mother to hear him cry.

His grandmother, the one with who he spent most of his childhood, was going to be taken off of life support. Hinata could only hear a distant ringing. It was as if time had stopped. He bent downward till his head touched his knees, clutching his clothing above his heart.

He felt so much pain in it. He felt it shattering. Alerted, Kageyama stood from his spot before anyone else could and ran outside, seeing the happy-go-lucky sunshine broken on the ground. The dark-haired male dropped onto the ground beside him and wrapped the little crow in his arms.

Hinata didn't think twice before clutching onto the male. Some of the other Karasuno members came to see what the matter was, but none of them could get Hinata to properly explain. The crow's phone vibrated on the ground, and a certain captain noticed it.

"Hello?" Daichi asked politely.

"My baby! Is he okay!? Please, put him on the phone!" A crying woman said desperately. "I-I don't believe he's in any condition to speak right now. Is this his mother? If you don't mind me asking, would you mind telling me what happened? I'm the Karasuno team captain, Sawamura Daichi."

Daichi pat Hinata's hair in an attempt to get the male to calm down. The woman went on to explain what happened while sobbing. Hinata's mother hung up the phone after the two said their goodbyes, and everyone, even Tsukishima, stared at their captain as they awaited an answer.

"His grandmother... he was very close to her, and she's... on life support." The team members caught on, feeling sympathy for the sad crow. "I'll talk to the coach. He's in no condition to play today." Daichi pats Hinata on the head a few times before walking away.

Kageyama just wrapped his arms around Hinata tighter, hoping that would provide enough support for the crow. He wasn't very good at making people feel better, but he was at least hoping to ground the tangerine as best he can.

"Let's get him to his room. Someone get him a glass of water," Sugawara said, bending down to rub the crows back. For the most part, he had calmed down. Though he was still crying and shaking.

Kageyama lifted Hinata up as if he was simply a feather, holding him by his butt so he wouldn't fall, making his way to the crow's room.

-----

Everyone sat around in Hinata's room, waiting for Daichi to come back. The orange-haired was laid down onto his bed, or rather, Kyotani's bed. The door opened, revealing Daichi, Shimizu, and Coach Ukai.

Shimizu set a box of candy onto the nightstand beside the small crow (who was staring at the wall as if he was in a different world). "Hinata, I'm sorry for your loss." Coach Ukai bowed his head in Hinata's direction sadly.

"We can't cancel the practice match against Inarizaki today, so we'll need someone to stay with him." Kageyama dropped his hand from the tangerine's head and stood up. "I will, Coach," he stated firmly.

Coach Ukai looked around the room, noticing a sudden peak in hostility, but everyone knew it was for the best. "Alright. Sugawara, you'll be subbing in for Kageyama today. Everyone, load the bus!" before leaving, Coach Ukai patted Hinata on the head. "I'm truly sorry for your loss, Shrimp."
