Dangerous Trails

Chapter 3

"Good morning."

"Good morning, how are you doing today?"

"I'm better thank you, how are you?"

"I'm okay, did you have a peaceful night?"

"Yeah I did," I continue,"hey Jazz, can I ask you something?"

"Sure go ahead."

"About that guy I was telling you yesterday."

"You mean Hunter, " she says with admiration.

"Yeah, he asked me out to lunch but then I turned down his offer, do you think I was being rude? I mean what if I hurt his feelings."

" I feel like you're just overthinking things it's just lunch, don't put too much thought into it, he'll get over it."

" I wish I was as relaxed as you."

"Overthinking things just complicates a situation."

"Yeah you're right."

"And also if you feel like you're ready to start dating again, just go for it, who knows if it could turn into something more."

"The thing is that I don't want to turn into something more."

"Maddie come on, it's love, you can't continue living your life based on something that happened in the past, you have to take a leap of faith, I get it hasn't been long since your break up with Lukah but he seems to have moved on pretty fast."

"You always know just what to say," I smile.

I get her point but taking risks is scary and it takes courage to overcome and I don't think I have that.

After having long and boring classes, finally the day is over. I decide to go to the library so that I can study a little bit before I get to my dorm room.
It's time up already and so I have to leave. I pack up my things and then I start going to my dorm room. I run into the least person I'd expect to see.

"What do you want?"

"I just want to talk Maddie,"

"I'm really not interested Mel, you shouldn't even be here," I say calmly trying to contain the situation.

"Please Maddie I really need to talk to you it's important," she says in a low tone.

"You really have no shame do you? After stealing my boyfriend, you insult me and then you even have the audacity to want to talk to me."

"Please I don't know who I can go to for this but I feel like someone's trying to kill me," she almost whispers.

"Am I supposed to do something about it, I can direct you to the police if you'd like or you can tell your boyfriend maybe he can protect you."

I hate being this rude to Mel but she totally deserves it. I have a feeling she's just making it up, if someone was really trying to kill her she would have gone to the authorities about it or at least tell one of the people she considers her friends.

"Maddie I'm serious."

"I'm dead serious too Mel, I honestly couldn't care less if you died anyway."

"Can you please just put your ego aside and help me? This isn't about Lukah it's about my life and one of my closest friends couldn't even care less."

"Wow that's a shocker, one of your closest friends? You and I are not friends," I say with emphasis,"I really don't see how I can help you, there's nothing I can do unless I call the police."

"Could you lend me the keys to your safe house?"

"You're playing with me right, you know you even sound unrealistic, 'ouuu Maddie someone's trying to kill me please help me' do you think I'm stupid? You know what I'm the one who's trying to kill you," I make a joke about it.
