Wrangling teenage emotions is hard enough on good days, but what if on bad days they could manifest as giant flesh and blood monsters?

Genesis is awoken in the middle of the night by a sudden flash and a buzzing sound.
It's her phone. Nate Jessup, the screen reads. Gee declines the call, sighing.
Then her phone buzzes again. She declines again.
The third time he calls her, she angrily picks up.
"What!?" Gee checks the clock on the table between her and Sage's beds. Luckily, the other girl hasn't even stirred yet, "it's one thirty in the morning, what could you possibly want?"
"I want you." Nate's voice sounds far away. Slurred. Hurt.
Genesis rubs her thumb and forefinger along the bridge of her nose, squeezes her eyes shut. Opens them once more.
Nope, not a dream.
Great...
"Nate. I told you months ago. We're through. You're lucky I didn't try and get you kicked off your team after what you pulled today." She says.
"I'm sorry. It was stupid. I was hurt and the Jackalopes are so good and you're so good. How can I compete with that? You've always been the better jockey. You always- You always loved tourneytub more than me." Nate says. He's definitely been drinking.
"Yup. You pretty much just hit the nail on the head. Now can I go back to sleep?" Genesis knows she's being cruel, but at the same time maybe he just will not take the hint otherwise.
"Come downstairs."
"What!?"
"Come downstairs. I'm here. At your hotel. Down in the lobby. Come downstairs. Please. Let's just talk. Like old times." Nate sings off-key.
Gee's heart rockets up into her throat. "Are you serious?"
"Yes. I need to see you. I need to hold-"
"Shut up Nate. This isn't fair. What you're doing right now isn't fair to me. You don't get to do this!"
Gee hears a loud sob on the other end of the line. A deep exhale. Crashing. Screaming.
"Oh God. Oh dear God! I think I just manifested something down here Genesis."
Apparently, Nate has one last trick up his sleeve to try and re-ensnare her. Genesis sits up in bed, fuming. Sudden volts of adrenaline fire up and down her body.
"Fine. Don't get yourself killed. I'm coming."
"That's wonderful to hear, babe. See you soon!" CLICK.
Gee is even angrier now, considering how delighted he suddenly sounds. She wonders just what, exactly, she'll do to him once she gets down there. She hops out of bed, flings a bathrobe over her pajamas, and races out the hotel room door.
