the shoji to heisuke's room flung up, bringing the light from the shining sun into his room. keiko walked in, disregarding his strange sleeping position and the way his hair laid in a mess.
"get up! get up!" she sang, pushing the covers off the sleeping boy and pulling his pillow from underneath him. his head fell to the floor with a loud thud.
"five more minutes." he whined, rolling over and not even reacting to his head hitting the floor.
"fine. i'll wake up shinpachi and sanosuke so they can eat all the breakfast." keiko joked, fiddling with her nails.
"i'm up!" he jumped out of bed, rushing down the corridor.
"aren't you going to change?!" she yelled after him, but could only hear the sound of his feet slamming against the floor as he ran down the corridors, hoping to get all the food before she woke up his two friends.
keiko went to find shinpachi's room with a glum look. her bubbly personality a few seconds ago had vanished completely and now she stood outside the room, letting out a sigh knowing she'd have to bring it back. she wanted everyone to think she was alright and was good at trying to be in her own world or convince others of things that weren't true. her hand lifted, about to pull open the shoji but was interrupted.
"i'm already up!" shinpachi said from inside the room before she could even enter the room and start singing. "heard heisuke go running past my room."
"okay. well hurry up and wake up sanosuke on your way. i'm going to help chizuru put the food out."
"alright."
she went skipping down to the room they'd eat food in, looking for chizuru.
"chizuru~" she called entering the room.
"hey, keiko. i've put everything out already. i just need to get the tea." chizuru greeted the girl from where she was kneeling on the floor.
"i'll get it!" keiko left the room and headed towards the kitchen where she could hear noise coming from. she entered and saw okita standing in the middle of the kitchen by the tea. "okita, what are you doing?"
"just perfecting the tea." he hummed, adding something to it.
"are you going to poison everyone?"
"not everyone. but i'd watch out for your tea." he said making her scoff and snatch the tray of tea away.
"come on. let's eat breakfast."
she tugged on his sleeve and led him back to the room where most of the captains were sitting around eating their food. okita let her drag him around. he couldn't deny that her being around lightened the mood and wouldn't mind talking more, but only if it meant finding out her intentions and such. the minute she slips up, he'll be there watching. he didn't know there was genuinely nothing to worry about.
chizuru stood up upon noticing keiko with the tea and went to take the tray. "i'll take it from here."
"keiko, come over here." heisuke called out, waving his hand around from where him and his two friends were sitting in the corner. he had put her food there already so there was no backing out. she would've liked to sit with chizuru at some point to have some girl chat, chizuru would probably appreciate it.
she went over to the trio and sat down, ready to dig in. they were going on about drinking or something. it perked keiko's interest.
"drinking, you say?" she piped into the conversation.
"yeah we were planning on going out and drinking till late today." heisuke explained. something told her they weren't exactly allowed.
"i haven't drank in a while. can i join?" keiko asked, her eyes glistening. she loved getting drunk and most of all loved breaking the rules. she wasn't going to be the perfect little helper, that wasn't in her nature.
