Chapter 4

This morning Mom, Josh, and I are going to the club. Mom is going to meet up with Daniel, Ashley, and Tyler, Daniel's friend from college to play tennis. Josh and I are going to swim in the pool at the club which I think is lame because there's an ocean right outside our house, but my mother insists we come with her.
"Ok mom we'll meet you there." I yell up the stairs. Josh and I head out to his car and I throw my Victoria secret bag in the back seat before sitting in the passenger seat. Josh starts the car and backs out the driveway and starts driving to the country club. I'm sure my mom is close behind us so we wait for her in the main lobby before checking in.
Josh and I found two lounge chairs near the pool and I set my stuff down. "What on earth would you even need here?" Josh asks looking at the size of my bag. "There's actually not that much stuff in it I just didn't want to bring a purse." I reply. Josh slowly takes off his shirt as if to taunt me with his abs. I laugh. "You're such a show off." Josh runs over to the pool and jumps in.
My moms tennis match gets over fairly quickly and then she invites us to eat with the group. "I think we'll just order something down here." I tell her. She nods in response and heads up to the main part of the club to meet her friends.
"So is your mom actually planning on dating this Daniel guy?" Josh asks on the way home. "Yeah I mean he's not so bad I guess." "Didn't your mom say that she's making him dinner tonight?" He recalls. "I think so and she wants us to be there so that he can get to know me." I roll my eyes. Josh pulls into the driveway and we walk into the house hand in hand. My phone buzzes from my bag and I pull it out. 'I'll be over in a few minutes.' The text from Charlotte read. Crap that's right. I rush upstairs and change into dark wash jean shorts and a light pink crop top. I throw my hair up into a bun and head back downstairs.
Charlotte sees me in the living room and walks in the sliding class door. "Hey." I say looking at her appearance. Charlotte is wearing white shorts and a light blue top. "Hey." She replies. "My mom is so irritating. She made me go to this fitting thing for a charity event even after I told her I already had plans." She says with a sigh. "Sometimes it's too much to handle." She continues. "Believe me I know my mom can be a little........." I trail off.
"A little what?" Mom asks from behind me. Shit. "Nothing mom, love you." My mom rolls her eyes and heads upstairs.
"Anyway how weird is it that your brother and my mom are dating?" I ask. "Yeah that's a little weird but I'm ok with it." "It would be awesome if they got married though, we'd be related." I add. "I'd be your aunt technically." Charlotte says. "Creepy." I reply.
After a long conversation with Charlotte about multiple things she leaves. I head back upstairs to my room. Josh of course is passed out on my bed. I lay down next to him and start kissing all over his face. He wakes up after a few seconds and I lay my head on his chest. "How was your nap?" I ask. "It was ok, I dreamt about you." "Really? What happened?" "We had sex at my new apartment." I slap his chest. "What new apartment?" I question. "Well I'm renting an apartment down the street now." He's got be joking. "Are you serious?" I ask. "100% serious." Josh replies. A huge smile finds its way onto my face and I pull myself on top of him so that I'm straddling him. Josh pulls my face closer to his and kisses me with so much love I feel woozy. His hands quickly find their way to my butt and squeeze it.

Josh and I met about 11 months ago in high school. He's 2 years older than me and when we first met I had only been going to that school for a few days because we moved around a lot. I believe it was love at first sight because when I first saw him in gym class I knew that he was the guy for me. It wasn't just a physical attraction that brought us together although I was and still am very attracted to him. That day in gym class we were playing volleyball and Josh and I were put on the same team. I am very bad at volleyball by the way. It was my turn to serve so I threw the ball in the air and hit it with my fist. The ball ended up going straight forward and hitting Josh in the back of the head. The gym teacher made me take him to the nurse to make sure he didn't have a concussion which of course he did. I felt so bad. After that I just kept checking up on him to make sure he was ok and after about 2 weeks he asked me out. He asked me to be his girlfriend after 3 dates and obviously I said yes.

"Are you sure this is what you want, to move to the hamptons for the summer?" I ask pulling away from him. "I'm sure, I can't go back to the city and leave you here with boys like Declan." He replies. "You know I would never cheat on you." I add. "I trust you but I don't trust other men I know how they think." Josh says. "Oh yeah and how do they think?" I question. "Well if they were to look at you they would automatically try to sleep with you because you're so damn sexy." He explains. "Is that so?" I ask with a smirk. "Yes and I'm the only man that gets to think about you that way." He adds cockily. I nod in reply feeling very turned on by how possessive he's being.
"Kate." Mom yells. I get up from my straddle position and lay down next to Josh. "What?" I reply at the same volume. "I'm going into town to run a few errands come with me." She says coming into my room. "Why?" I ask. "Because we haven't had much time together lately. Please it'll be fun." She explains. I stand up off my bed and grab my purse. "Guess I'll see you later then, love you." I say before giving Josh a little peck on the lips. "Love you too." He replies.

My mom and I get along most of the time I guess but she just doesn't understand me. When she was my age she was in juvie knocked up with me. I think that's part of the reason she doesn't want Josh and I to be around each other, she doesn't want me to end up like her. She doesn't like to talk about my dad and I would assume that's because she didn't know him very well, but she has told me as much as she could when I started asking about him when I was younger. They weren't in love and they weren't even dating. He was friends with Nolan and that's how they met. My dad is still alive but he doesn't know that my mom was ever pregnant.

Mom and I are currently walking down the street in town. "Oh hey it's the dog napper." Jack Porter says as we walk up the a table him and Nolan are sitting at. "Hi, what are you two doing here?" Mom asks petting Sammy. "I'm getting a little financial advice, I'm thinking about selling the bar." Jack explains. "What do you think?" Nolan asks my mom. "I think it's none of our business Nolan, he should do what he wants." Mom answers. "What he wants is to use his fathers insurance money, buy a boat, set sail to Haiti and never come back." Nolan says. "Well like I said it's his choice and he already has a boat." Mom adds. "He sold the boat. He being me." Jack corrects. "Nolan owns the Amanda now." Jack continues. Wait hold on. Jack named a boat after my mom? And then sold it? "Funny story actually." Nolan says. "Well I'm sure you'll do what's best for you and Sammy." Mom affirms. "Bye." She continues. I wave goodbye to Nolan and mom and I continue walking.
The rest of the day was spent lounging around until it was time to get ready for the dinner mom planned with Daniel. My mom wants me to look at least presentable so I decide to take a shower. When I'm done I blow dry my hair and put on a strapless light blue dress. The dress stops a little above mid thigh and has a brown belt that goes below my chest area. I French braid my hair and do a smokey eye before heading downstairs. Josh is asleep on the couch. Gosh he sleeps a lot. I decide to wake him up because Daniel should be here soon. "Josh." I say shaking him a little. He opens his eyes groggily. "Hey sleepy head." I state. "You look nice." He expresses.
We wait a long time for Daniel to come and mom calls him for the fourth time. We hear a knock at the door and mom stands up. "Finally." I say. "It about time." Mom declares. She opens the curtain to see not Daniel but Jack with flowers. "That's funny that's what I was thinking on the way here." Jack mentions. "Hi." Mom says surprised. "These are from Sammy, as a way of saying thank you for bringing him home last week, twice." Jack claims handing my mom a Bouquet of flowers. I use this as my excuse to bring Josh upstairs.
"What was that all about?" Josh asks. "That's Jack Porter." I explain. "Ah." He nods. "So when are you moving into your new apartment?" I ask. "Whenever you come help me get my stuff in the city." "Let's go tomorrow then so I don't have to go to that stupid charity event tomorrow." "Sounds good." He replies.
The next morning I tell my mom I'm not going to the charity event and she goes ballistic. "Mom, it's one event." I defend. "An important one." She argues. "Well Josh and I have to leave if we want to make a few stops. Bye mom." I say walking out to Josh's car where he's already sitting. He drives us to his parents house in the city. We listen to music from my phone plugged into his car all the way there.
"Kate, haven't seen you in a while, how are you?" Josh's mom asks. "I'm great what about you?" I reply. "I'm good." Josh and I go into his room to start packing up the stuff he needs for the summer. "This is going to take all day." I say looking around the room. "I don't need my whole room unlike some people." He jokes. We start packing up his things in the boxes and suitcases. It takes a long time but after taking a few breaks we finally finish. "I told you it wouldn't take all day." Josh announces. "Whatever." I reply.
On our way back to South Hampton we stop at my friend Carly's house just to say hi but only stay a few minutes so we can get back to Josh's apartment and unpack.
Once we arrive at Josh's apartment we start unloading the boxes and suitcases from the car. The place is already furnished like most houses In the Hamptons.
We finish unpacking a little while later and josh drives me home. "So do you know what tomorrow is?" I ask. "How could I forget, I have something very special planned." Josh replies with a smirk. Our 1 year anniversary is tomorrow and I'm really excited. We get to my house I get out of his car and so does he. "What are you doing?" I ask. "What, I can't walk my girlfriend to the door." He questions. "Of course you can you just haven't done it in a while." I reply. "I'll pick you up at 3, ok?" "Yeah, see you then." I say before giving him a passionate kiss. He intensifies it immediately and I'm sad I have to go inside. I pull away slowly. "I'll see you tomorrow." I say before walking into the house. "I love you." He calls after me before getting into his car.
I hear clapping outside so I walk out to see what's going on. It's Nolan clapping for mom as she comes up the steps. "You have really outdone yourself. Your Hamptons exposed link is a work of art and sliding your own therapy session into the mix to throw suspicion, genius. I mirrored the site and posted a few clones just to make sure it never does." Nolan says to mom. I'm leaning against the door frame and I don't think either of them see me. "Thank you." Mom replies. "Now go before someone sees you Victoria watches this place like a hawk." She continues. "I also did some research into your collateral damage seems Dr. Banks wasn't always the go to shrink for the rich and demented. She began her road to infamy as a court appointed child psychologist. Random coincidence?" Nolan declares. "Nothing's random Nolan." Mom replies. They finally notice me. "Hey Katy bear, how long you been standing there?" Nolan asks. "The whole time." I reply as mom walks past me into the house. "So, what have you been up to?" He asks. "Not much." I reply awkwardly. "Have you made any friends yet?" "The teenagers here are such snobs, I don't want to have friends here." I reply. "Understandable, well I have some things to do today, so I'll see you later." Nolan says giving me a hug. I go inside and my mom is waiting for me at the counter.
"What?" I ask. "I don't want you to talk to Nolan anymore there's too much risk." "Mom, you can't just tell me to not talk to the only father figure I've ever had after I just got him back in my life." "Yes, I can I'm your mother." I storm upstairs and slam the door to my room.
Later I walk downstairs. "I'm going to Josh's." I say to mom as she's painting. She rarely paints, something must really be bothering her. Kate you don't care, I try to tell myself. "Mom, are you alright?" I ask. "I just hate that you don't have very many people that love you in your life." Mom says. "I have plenty." I reply. "Maybe, but if I weren't so upsessed with avenging my father you would have more." "I want to do this too." I add pulling her into a hug. Josh's car pulls in and I say goodbye to mom before leaving. "Be home by midnight." She yells to me.
"Hey." I say getting into the passenger seat. "Hi beautiful." Josh leans over to kiss me. He drives us to his apartment. I tell him about all the things my mom and I talked about and for the most part he understood. He knows how close Nolan and I used to be. Josh and I watch movies for a while and then it was time I have to go home.
