Blaire

Walking home from O'Malleys felt like walking on clouds, and I had never really felt like that before. I couldn't remember a time when I felt this...content. Finally life was throwing me a bone. I didn't know what exactly was going to happen now, but I felt confident for once that it was something good. I practically skipped, yes skipped up the walkway onto the porch. I opened the door and walked inside. David was sitting on the couch reading something.
"Hey Uncle David, I'm home." I said and smiled.
David looked up at me and smiled. "Thanks for letting me know you were working late so I didn't panic." He said.
"No prob." I replied and took my jacket off and hung it up on the hook at the door.
"How was work?" David asked.
"It was great." I grinned. David gave me a funny look.
"What?" I asked with a laugh.
"I've just never seen this version of you." He said.
"I'm just happy." I shrugged and walked into the kitchen. David followed me.
"Theres chicken alfredo in the fridge for you." He said.
"Great! I'm starving." I said and opened the fridge and pulled out the container and opened it before plopping it in the microwave and starting it.

I hoisted myself up on the counter while I waited. David stepped closer to me studying my face.
"Dave your creeping me out." I said and chuckled.
"I mean I'm not complaining that you seem so happy but you'll have to forgive me, I thought you might be high." David said and sighed in relief that I clearly wasn't. I just smiled and shook my head.
"I smile once in a while and people think its criminal." I smirked.
"Well you never smile. At least not like this. Again.. I'm not complaining its nice to see, really Blaire, I'm happy that you are happy. What happened at work to make you so happy?" David asked.
"I don't know." I lied. There was absolutely no way I could tell him... or anyone what happened that made me so happy. "It was just a good night is all."

The microwave beeped and David pulled the chicken alfredo out of it and stirred it with a fork before handing it to me. I dug into the pasta like I hadn't seen food in years.
"Thats a good sight too. You actually eating something." David smiled.
"Its delicious. Any chicken alfredo I got back in Oregon came from a box in the frozen foods section."
"Its my mothers recipe." David smiled. "Oh, I forgot to ask since you were in a hurry to get to work, but how did your appointment with Archie go?" David asked.
I shrugged.
"It went okay I guess. He's nice. Its just going to take some time to open up I think."
"I understand. You're a lot like your father. He likes to keep things in he thinks sharing his feelings makes him weak."
"Oh, I know." I said.
