The almost two hours flight to Paris was the longest Charles had ever took, he kept looking at his signet ring twisting it on his small finger not paying much attention to his secretary talking about protocols.

He stopped what he was doing when the captain announced that they arrived and will land anytime soon.

The media who already gotten word that Diana was involved in an accident were already swarming the landing bay when he arrived. All of them asking questions and taking pictures simultaneously, he paid them no mind and immediately shook the hands of the current UK ambassador in France and entered the car that will take him to the hospital where Diana was taken.

"Thank you for picking me up despite the suddenness of the situation."

"No problem your royal highness."

"How is she? Are there any updates from the hospital?"

"The last update was that lady Diana suffered serious injuries, fighting for her life. The doctors are doing their best to keep her alive."

Charles placed his hands on his face, the severity of Diana's condition pained him that his tears fall from his eyes. "Diana, please make it. For our sons, for me."

The ambassador wanted to offer a reassuring hand on the royal highness shoulder and console him, but protocols prevented him.

"Excuse me your royal highness, Mr. Ambassador we are almost at the hospital." The driver announced.

Charles composed himself and wiped the tears from his eyes and asked, "Have you gathered any information about what exactly happened to her?"

"From what the police could gather at this moment, her car was speeding at the Pont de l'Alma tunnel trying to escape the paparazzi when the driver lose control of the vehicle and crashed."

The event played on Charles' mind that gave him pain unlike he ever felt before.

"How about the other passengers in the car how are they?"

"The driver and Mr. Dodi Fayed were pronounced dead on arrival, lady Diana's bodyguard is alive and sustained serious injuries."

Charles felt sorry for those who lost their lives and the bodyguard who got injured trying to protect her, but Diana was his priority he has a lot to make up to her after this if she survives. He already promised this to his sons and this is a promise he will not break.

The media are now joined by the crowd at the hospital waiting for any news about Diana and her condition. The police did their best to direct the car of the prince towards the back of the hospital where he will enter. Diana's head of security and his head of security went ahead of him when they arrived earlier to arrange the security of the floor where Diana was confined at. The medical professionals bowed when he arrived and the director of the hospital himself escorted him to Diana's room.

As the elevator arrived at the designated floor, Charles felt his feet heavy with every step towards Diana's room. He's afraid of seeing her damaged body from the crash for the sight will surely kill him inside.

"Your royal highness, this is lady Diana's room. Our best physicians are attending to her. I will call on her head physician to discuss her condition personally to you. Kindly wait inside the room we cleared for you to stay at if you desire." The director said and led Charles to his room where he will wait for Diana's doctor.

The suite hospital room was arranged to look like an ordinary suite room where Charles could rest while staying there. He's glad the director thought ahead that he might stay until Diana's condition gets better.

"I appreciate everything you have done for Diana and preparing this room for me. I will indeed stay until she's well enough for us to return together back to England." Charles said and extended his hand to the director of the hospital.

"Anything for you and the royal family your highness, it is an honor to serve you and your family." The director bowed and went to Diana's room to call the head physician attending to the princess.

Charles opened the fridge inside and poured himself a glass of water and seated at the sofa. Not long after someone knocked at the door and opened it slightly.

"Your royal highness, may I come in? I am Doctor Piers, lady Diana's head physician." The doctor anounced.

Charles stood up, "Do come in."

The doctor locked the door when he entered, Charles shook his hand and motioned for him to take a seat in front of him. He noticed the tired look on the doctor's face.

"Diana, how is her condition?"

The doctor wiped the sweat on his forehead and looked at the prince, "When she arrived, she's barely alive. We did our best to keep her heart beating to keep her alive. The impact of the accident caused her sternum and ribs to be broken that caused injury to her heart and pierced her lungs. We put her into medical induced coma for the swelling in her brain and for her body to heal faster."

Charles felt nothing but pure anguish at what Diana suffered.

"Her chances of survival?" His voice almost sound broke at this.

"I can't answer for now. But we will do our best for her your royal highness. For now we will monitor her and see her progress if she gets better."

"Did she suffer any other injuries?"

"Her legs are broken and will need therapy for her to walk again, wounds and bruises almost covered her entire body but it will heal."

Charles can see on his mind Diana's condition and it broke his heart into pieces.

"Can I see her?" He asked wanting to see Diana even for just a little while if the doctors will allow him.

"Of course, though...I am afraid you can't stay long for her condition is still not stable and we have to be with her everytime."

Charles nodded, "I will not take long."

Dr. Piers entered Diana's room first and talked with his team inside and monitored and checked her condition if she's stable enough for them to leave her for a short time before calling the prince inside. They all bowed before the prince and left just staying outside Diana's doorway for the prince to easily call them if anything happens.

Charles braced himself by the chair near Diana's bedside, seeing Diana's condition in his eyes made him almost feel the pain she's suffering from.

Charles cried and said "Diana I am sorry. I...I don't want to see you hurt, not like this. This is my fault, if I just became the husband you deserved you wouldn't leave my side and this accident would not have happened."

Charles carefully held Diana's hand and kissed it tenderly, "You are my wife and you will always be my wife. Get well soon my love and give me the honor of making it up to you for every pain and tears I caused. This time I will be the husband you deserve. Live for me and our children, we will be a family again."
