Merry Christmas!!! ~ (p.s. read the book if you have time, it's still available on my profile)

-JOHN-
"Are you going to make it, love?" I held the phone tighter as I kept my composure to prevent the tears from falling from my eyes. It was the 24th and Roger's flight has been cancelled because there was a massive storm in Switzerland where he was currently recording his solo album.

I haven't seen him in two weeks and I've missed him. He promised that he would be home for Christmas but apparently, he won't make it. I know this isn't his fault but I couldn't help but feel disappointed... and hurt.

This was going to be the first Christmas eve dinner that he'll be away from us.

"I'm sorry, John." I heard him sigh which made my heart drop. "I'll get the first plane out of here in the morning, I promise."

"Yeah, okay." I gloomily said.

"Merry Christmas, babe. Give a kiss to the kids for me, please."

"I will. Merry Christmas too, Rog. I love you."

"I love you too." And with that, the line went dead and I slowly placed the phone on the receiver and went back to the living room where Juliet and Felix are creating Christmas cards to give to their dad when he gets home.

"Dada, look!" Juliet cheekily showed me his Christmas card and I looked at it and smiled. She drew a stick figure of what I would assume is our family. I saw that she drew me and my big, poofy hair which made me giggle, and she also drew Roger with the upper half of his face all blacked out, maybe she was trying to recreate the shades that he always loved to wear.

She also drew her and Felix, and we were all holding hands. Then she surrounded the stick family with a big, red-coloured heart. "This is so good, princess. Good job!" I said and she gave me a big smile, showing me her incomplete set of teeth. Her two front teeth fell out earlier this month and she cried so hard because she thought there was something wrong with her. But Roger cuddled with her to calm her down and told her the typical story of the tooth fairy.

He said that if she leaves her teeth under her pillow overnight, the tooth fairy will give her a small surprise. Guess what? She bought it. We just placed a chocolate bar under her pillow when she was fast asleep and she was so happy when she woke up, too happy that she won't even let us touch her chocolate bar.

Oh, the things we do for our kids.

I realized that Felix was sat on the side of the couch with a folded up yellow paper on his hand. "Is that your Christmas card for dad?" I asked and he slowly nodded and handed me the paper. "Do you want me to keep this for you until he comes home?" I asked and he shook his head. "Take a look, dad. Is it okay?" He asked and I opened it up. I thought it was going to be a drawing like Juliet's but I realized that it was a letter.

Dear Dad.

Merry Christmas! I miss you. I hope you come home for Christmas. I miss to play road trucks and race cars with you. I bring the race track that mummy gave me in case you come home. I want you and me to be the first one to play with it.

My Christmas wish is to see you again, dad. Juliet misses you. Daddy John misses you. I miss you.

I love you Dad.

Love, Felix.

My heart fluttered at what my son wrote for his dad and I tried my hardest to keep my tears away. I knew he was sweet but I didn't expect him to be this sweet. I hugged Felix and I felt his tiny arms around my chest as I kissed the top of his head.

I folded the paper and gave it back to Felix and he placed it inside his zippered up pocket. "Are you hungry, little buddy?" I asked and he nodded his head. "Come on, let's eat." I said and held his hand but he resisted and shook his head. "What's wrong, bud?" I asked.

"Wait for dad." He simply said and I gave him a small smile. "He'll be a little late, okay? But he said he'll be here and that we can go ahead and eat without him." I decided to tell him a small, white lie. But I think it's better than breaking their hearts by telling them that their dad couldn't make it to Christmas eve dinner.

"Dada, chicken!" Juliet squealed as I set her down on her seat and I happily placed a drumstick on her plate and she held it and happily munched on it, spreading gravy on the sides of her mouth. "Is it good?" I asked and she gave me a wide grin and a nod.

"How about you, Fe? What do you want?" I asked and he just sat on his chair and stared at the food on the table. "Bud? Aren't you hungry?" I asked him some more and he shook his head. "Wait for dad." He mumbled which made my heart break even more.

"I promise he'll be here, okay? Just eat a little, please." I said and he gave me a small nod, then I went ahead and gave him a serving of mashed potatoes and a chicken wing. "Gravy?" I asked and he nodded again.

I also got myself a plate and sat down beside Juliet, making sure to look at her from time to time so she won't choke on her food.

Felix tapped my arm as I took my last bite of the mashed potatoes. "Can we open the presents when dad comes home?" He asked and I kissed his forehead and gave him a smile.

"Of course we can, little buddy."

Juliet got food drunk and immediately fell asleep after dinner with the small, wrapped present I gave her resting on her chest. She said she wanted to open her presents that night but her eyes were barely opening because of how sleepy she was until it closed completely and she dozed off.

On the other hand, Felix barely slept. He said he wanted to wait for his dad so I slept with him in the living room couch. His sleep was so light that small movements from me jolted him awake immediately. I sighed as I held his sleeping body close to mine.

I guess he really wanted to wait for Roger.
