3rd Person POV:

James, Sirius, Remus and Peter walk – late as usual – into the potions dungeon. Remus surreptitiously hands a piece of parchment to James.

"I managed to finish checking it at break,' Remus whispers to him, "you'll definitely get a good mark."

"You're the best Moony, thanks. I'll make it up to you" James quickly replies. They four of them sit down around the table that they normally sit at.

As usual, Severus had sat as far away from the group's regular place. James looks around the dungeon, then frowns.

"Where's Evans?" he asks Sirius.

"I don't know Prongs, maybe she has given up on being a good student and is skipping class." Sirius jokes.

"Lily wouldn't do that, she's Prefect." James says, not catching the joke.

At that moment, Lily walks into the room, her head bent low, her arms wrapped tightly around her books. She hurriedly sits down, preparing for the lesson between two taken seats. Marlene and Alice come in after her, but seeing that all the seats close to Lily were filled, the sit nearer the Marauders.

"Something's up..." James says, his eyes fixed on Lily.

"I'm sure it's nothing, girl things..." Sirius obviously isn't interested.

"But she's obviously upset..." he replies, still staring at the back of Lily's red hair.

"So?" Sirius turns to look at his friend. James doesn't look back. "Hey, you gonna blink?" Sirius asks.

When James doesn't respond, Sirius clicks his fingers in front of his face. James looks around.

'What?" he says, annoyed.

"Did you hear me?" Sirius says, "You look like some sort of stalker staring at her like that!"

"Sorry..."

"Hey!" Remus interrupts them both, "Are you gonna hand in my – sorry – your essays, or not?"

'Yes, yes, calm down Moony." Sirius replies, standing up to give his homework to Slughorn. James, after stealing one more glance at Lily, follows.

Alice POV:

"Why on earth did you tell her?" I ask Marlene.

"It just happened ok? I didn't mean to I was just getting annoyed." she looks just as annoyed with herself I as I do.

"Fine. I guess we were going to have to tell her at some point."

"I know she just wants to be friends with him but how can she not see what is happening?"

"Maybe she can. she just doesn't want to accept it."

"I get that she's friends with him and I want her to be happy but being friends with Snape isn't making her happy now."

"I know. I guess we'll just have to let her figure it out, it's her decision."

"But if that decision impacts us though... You know the death eater bit is true..."

"That's still an if. It may not come to that. I hope it doesn't."

James POV:

Halfway through the lesson, and I still can't get my mind off Lily. Like even more than usual. I need to find out what's wrong.

Maybe the girls will tell me something, I can see them talking. Something has definitely happened, I just want to know. They do sort of hate me though... Oh well, I want to know.

I scribble a note on a spare piece of parchment and float it over to Alice using my wand. I bump the lump of paper into Alice's head, and looking up, she sees it's me. I smile and notion and the paper. She looks down, continuing her work. Oh c'mon. I try again, and eventually she gives in, rolling her eyes. She reads:

What's up with Lily
She is never late and she isn't sitting with you or Snape

Alice scribbles an answer and floats it back to me.

I quickly unravels the piece of parchment, only to get this:

None of your business, Potter.

Really Alice? I write something else below, sending it back:

I just want to know what's happened

The answer comes:

And you don't need to know, now go away.

I try again:

C'mon, something's happened                                                                                                                                 I won't spread it around i promise

They don't even open it properly, Marlene just takes the ball and shoots it at my head, hard.

I don't try again.

Lily POV:

My thoughts are racing, but not about the work. It's not like I can forget those conversations that easily.

"Could Marlene be telling the truth? "

"No, of course not. Sev would never say something that bad about me."

"Are you sure about that?"

"Of course."

"Do you really know though? He has been spending so much more time with those Slytherins."

"But he is still a good person!"

"You've heard the rumours and you have heard about the spells he has learnt."

I sneak a look at Severus. He's sitting with two other Slytherins, I doesn't know their names, but I do miss his company in potions. We used to get along so well but now we seem to just be fighting more and more often.

"Why can't he just listen? I thought he said that being Muggleborn didn't matter."

"Well it obviously does"

"Even if I did think they were telling the truth, how would I explain it to him? 'Oh, hi Sev, my friend was eavesdropping on you and you called me a mudblood.' He would deny it, definitely."

"Of course he would deny it, he wouldn't want you to know."

Did you know that I originally wrote this as a script? I am wondering about publishing another version of this, in that form. What would you all think of that? If you enjoyed this part so far though, why not vote, leave a comment down below and follow me for the latest updates!
