(I totally forgot to post this chapter, so I had to put it back in where it belongs so sorry for any confusion! and that this chapter is sucky so my apologies)
Kate Hoult & Zack Devin: 17 years old: Hobbies include hosting parties, drinking alcohol, and bragging about possessions
After the memorial they had left school and went to the closest rail trail and began drinking. This however wasn’t what confused me, what confused me was that they were in this. I wasn’t friends with them, they hated me. But knowing that they hated me perked my interest.
They drank, and drank, and drank. I’m not sure what it was because it was covered with a paper bag. Each time Kate swallowed her face would scrunch up, it must have been strong. I wasn’t sure what watching them get drunk was supposed to do for me, if anything it made me even happier about my decision. They didn’t say anything either, just passed the bottle between them. The sliver of skin that was exposed when Kate’s arm reached for the bottle was tattooed with goose bumps from the cold march air.
“Zack,” Kate finally spoke.
“Yuss?” he asked sloppily.
“I think we killed Adelaide,”
“She killed herself,” he said matter-of-factly, pointing at her.
“Like, uh, no, like what if we were the reason?” she stammered, “I wrote that story about her, and you and you said she was a whore. To her face!”
“I was just joshing her,” Zack exhaled. See? I don’t see how this is important for me to watch this.
“She didn’t know that, Zack I haven’t slept very well since it all happened,”
“Me, either I think she is haunting me. I see her in my dreams,”
“Zack! It’s because we are guilty! Can’t you see? What if it was me who was raped? And I had called the cops,” she pleaded.
“I would beat his ass, and no one would be mad because it wasn’t like it was your fault,” he scoffed. I rolled my eyes, he was such an idiot.
“It wasn’t her fault! You watched the video I know you did! You could see her struggling; he had his hand over her mouth! And we still tormented her for it. We need to do something,” she begged. He walked in front of her, wrapping his arms around her body. Then he kissed her. I KNEW IT! I so knew they were getting it on together! HA! I smiled smugly.
“I do feel bad, babe. So what could we do? I mean she’s dead so we can’t really help her,” she pushed him away, rolling her eyes.
“We are going to hold a fundraiser in her name. That’s the least we can do,”
I was a little taken aback at all of this. I had just watched as the two people who were the worst to me, actually feel bad. It was something I thought I would never see. Then they drove home drunk. I can not tell you the level of dumb that they are. Honestly how do people look up to them? Zack passed out, and Kate went to work. She scribbled rapidly, on a scrap piece of paper, ideas for a fundraiser. Then she began looking up suicide prevention centers in which she would send the money to.
It was going to be called ‘Adelaide’s Angels’ and all the money was going to wherever she decided was best. I think she could have chosen a less cliché name for it. Maybe something cool like, ‘Bears. Beets. Battle star galactic-Adelaide.’ But I can’t change that. So I will just have to deal with it. Then she began crying. I shifted uncomfortably. Maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it wasn’t, but she was crying.
She picked up her phone and clicked through her contacts. She held the phone closer to her face, but didn’t touch it. She waited, three dial tones later they picked up. “You are an asshole! How do you live with yourself? You ruined her life FOREVER!” and the she hung up. I would later find out she had called Aaron.
