Chapter seven

"There's nothing here Sal, just the empty ruins like usual," Sonic Said into his headset.

I sighed, "Have you checked both the East and West part of the ruins?"

There was a pause.

A long, long pause.

"The west is clear but I think I hear something coming from the East side, I'm going to go check it out," Sonic finally reported back.

"Be careful Sonic, report back to me if you make contact with a bot,"

"Roger that Sal,"

I sighed, removing the earpiece. I had it on for so long my ears were starting to ache.

"Emelia! Do I have anymore meetings for today or anything at all on my schedule?" I shouted.

A smaller mobian with white fur and long ears walked into the communication room, she checked her tablet while looking around.

"Where is everyone else?" She asked me.

"I sent them home, they've been working hard and they deserved a break." I sighed, "Am I free or do I need to call someone back in?"

"You were supposed to have a meeting with the leaders of the southern base and exchange information but we're having trouble contacting them. We think coms are down but we don't know yet."

"Where are their mechanics? Have they not been able to find a problem?" I asked her, "I just got off a long distance call with Sonic, it couldn't be our stations."

"Oh another thing I wanted to tell you about was the-" the power in the room cut of, "power issue. Oh dear, I'll report this is in."

Emilia looked into her tablet and began muttering while tapping ferociously at the screen.

"s a l l y!" Sonic's voice shouted.

I Put in the ear piece and responded to the call.

"I've made contact with enemy bots, looks like it's just one"

"You called in at a great time, we're having issues with power again. Is there anyway you could snag a power cell without breaking it this time?"

"Oh, I just got an urgent message from Knuckles," Emelia paused to tap at the screen, "He says he has urgent news about Eggman and our captured friends."

"Sorry Sonic, I'm going to have to leave you with Emilia for a while, stay alive."

I chucked the ear piece onto the table, "I'm going to meet Knuckles, please call me if anything comes up, com is on the table!" I shouted as I ran out the door.

I would have to treat her to extra rations later but right now there was no time. Knuckles doesn't request meetings often, only saving them for emergencies. Whatever it was Knuckles needed to talk about, I had a feeling it was important.

I turned the corridor, the lights above me flickering back on, the generators seeming to finally do their job. Just in time for me to run around the black furred Bunny, they screamed, dropping their bag. I shouted an apology but didn't halt my sprint.

"Knuckles I'm here!" I said throwing the door open, "What's the emergency?"

Knuckles motioned to the mat next him, "I've been consulting the master emerald over our missing friend. I'm not certain but I think I can get an image of her, only for a moment though."

"You mean the software developer who worked on the barrier?"

"(Y/N)"

"Yes pardon, I never got to met her officially, she was always so busy. You said you could find her?"
