"Where are you?" He asked you calmly through the phone. You nervously traced the polka dots of your pajama bottoms as you spoke to Harry on the phone. He had called immediately when you were late to visiting him this morning before school started.
"I'm not feeling too good." You told him truthfully and sneezed. You felt terrible and this sickness hit you out nowhere. "Don't you have a class to teach right about now?" You asked him as you looked over at your clock that was a gift from your parents from there last trip.
"Yes but I wanted to know why you weren't coming today. I'll stop by after school to bring you some things." Your heart swelled as he said this. After what had happened a few days earlier you didn't want to upset him further; he still grew quiet at times when you two were together when it was accidentally brought up by you.
"I would like that. Could you bring me soup, I think I only have one container left but it doesn't look too appetizing." You asked him as you snuggled deeper into your pillows and blackout nest.
"Of course, I'll see you later okay? I love you," and with all said he hung up. You hadn't yet said the three words back and you were hesitant to take that leap. You were so young you didn't know what to classify all of this as and it sure didn't help that in your mind everything was a jumbled mess.
You yawned and decided it would be best to get some rest since the previous night you got none. You burrowed deeper into your bed and closed your eyes, the fatigue depleting all of your strength. Faster than a pin could drop you were in a peaceful dream state, taking a much needed break from your hectic life.
~~~
A soft knock on the door and the ring of the doorbell lifted you out of the rest you were encased in. You didn't care what you looked like as you trudged down the stairs and winced as your whole body hurt.
You looked out the door and a gasp left your lips; there stood Parker with his hands in his pockets casually waiting for you to answer the door. You debated on wether or not to answer, not wanting Harry to find out and be angry.
You watched through the peephole as he once again reached for the doorbell and knocked again, still softly. You shifted on your feet and looked at the clock next to the coatrack; school was still in session and what Harry didn't know wouldn't hurt him.
You slowly opened the door and winced as the daylight shown bright. Once your eyes adjusted you took in the boy who was awkwardly standing on your doorstep with a bag of items.
"Hey," he said and you gave him a small smile. Why did he have to come by when you were sick and disheveled.
"Hi Parker," you crooked out and immediately blushed as you worked on clearing your throat. Of all times for this to occur it had to be now.
"I had a feeling you were sick since you had the sniffles yesterday all through history," the mention of your history class brought your attention back up. "Do you mind if I come in?" He asked lightly and you nodded uncertainly.
You led him over to the living room and motioned for him to take a seat on the couch whereas you took the love seat. You had no idea as to why Parker would be at your house, especially when school was still in session for another hour. You noted as the clock chimed that Harry's class would just be starting now.
"I need to talk to you about something," he began in a low voice and it brought your worry up a notch.
"Okay, are you alright?" Your caring nature got the best of you and though you weren't close to one another you had still gone to the same schools throughout the years. He shot you a smile and nodded his head.
"Yeah I'm fine, it's more of you that I'm worried about." Your eyes widened and you had to make sure your face gave nothing away, the only thing running through your head was to deny what ever he had to say.
"Why's that? I'm pretty sure I only have a cold but thank you for being concerned." You laughed and smiled at him in hopes that was what he was worried about.
In the back of your mind you knew it wasn't but you were just buying some time to figure out what his game was.
"That wasn't exactly what I was thinking about, but I'm glad your okay. The real reason why I'm worried is I have been doing some research," he said and that was when your heart dropped. You knew he had a inkling of what was going on; Parker Hall was not a stupid teenager, but he was very bright.
"Research on what?" You willed your voice to stay even as you watched him pull a thick file out of the bag he brought in.
"Mr. Styles; after what happened a few days ago he just isn't sitting right with me. He just acted so strange when we approached him at lunch. It was like he had some sort of claim over you and it was weird." You could hear blood roaring in your ears as you tried to think of a proper response to give to him.
"Like I had told you he's just helping me get my grade up," you spoke in a light and airy tone hoping to close the discussion.
"I think he has you fooled, I don't think he's a good guy. I looked him up and I found out that he got fired from his other job at another school." You were shocked at this since Harry had said nothing of this to you.
Then again that got you to thinking; Harry seemed to know everything about you and when you switched the conversation to him you were always given angry replies. Your want of not wanting to anger him was greater than your need of information.
Instead of not wanting to hear anymore of what Parker had to say you took matters into your own hands and grabbed the file off of the table.
"What else did you find out?" You voice was much smaller than it had been just a few previous moments before and you couldn't help the tears that welled up in your eyes as you gazed at all of the articles in front of you.
"He got fired from his other job at another school, somewhere far away, because he had 'illicit relations' with a student who was legal but still it was against the school." Your mouth had to have been wide open as you took in what Parker had said.
"That's crazy," you told him and began to search through the articles to find that exact one. Once you found it your eyes rapidly flew across the page.
"It says that it was never found to be true, just a word of the mouth." You pointed out to him and in the distance you could hear your phone ringing, which you ignored.
"It must have been many words from many mouths because it got the guy fired and sent to another district. I just want you to be safe," he muttered the last part and a dust of red car over his cheeks. Inside you felt giddy as you stared at him. "I really like you," he added just a moment later. You didn't know what to say; you had feelings for Harry but after finding out all of this you didn't know where you two stood. One the other hand you had a huge crush on the boy that was sitting just in front of you a while back and it's said you always feel something for your first crush, no matter how small or large it once was.
"I'm flattered and I sorta like you too" you told him quietly, meaning it. He grinned and moved over to sit next to you the love seat. You turned away from him, not wanting him to catch your cold.
"Then I really hope you don't mind if I do this," he leaned in, pulled your head to face him and pressed his lips softly to yours. You didn't move and your mind went blank; just as quick as he put his lips on yours you pulled away and jumped off the love seat.
"Parker, I, I um," you didn't know what to say. Here was your childhood crush telling you he liked you and then kissing you. "I have something with someone else right now and um," you trailed off not knowing what exactly everything was.
"You don't sound too sure of what it is you have with some other guy," he told you with raised eyebrows.
"It's complicated," you offered.
"Do you regret it?" He asked with a small frown on his face. Did you regret it? Did you regret that he made your insides flutter and he was the nicest guy on the planet?
"No I don't regret it." The sincerity of your voice rang through and a grin overtook his frown. He nodded thoughtfully and stood up, grabbing his files along the way.
"I didn't either, if things don't work out with that guy do you think I'd have a shot?"
"Yes," you said to him absolute. In honesty you didn't know what was going to happen to your relationship now that all of this information had been brought to the surface.
"Good to know. You relax, I'll see myself out." With that he walked out of the living room and out of the door. You glanced at the clock and saw that school was over, and that Harry would be here soon.
You walked your aching body back up to your room to see who had called you. Sure enough Harry had ringed you a total of 3 times and sent you many texts. All of them showing anger and terse words. You decided to ring him to tell him to not come over but a banging on your door made dread fill your body.
You slowly made your way down, mindful of the headache that was making its way into your head. You didn't have to look outside to know who it was but just opened the door and again you winced at the intrusion of light.
"You didn't answer any of my calls," he stated as he walked inside.
"I didn't hear my phone, I was down here for a bit." You spoke a partial truth and hoped he would buy it. At the beginning you were happy he was coming over but what had just transpired between you and Parker left a floodgate of doubt fill you the the brim. You sneezed and the sniffles made it hard to breathe as you walked to the kitchen where he had gone to.
"Oh baby girl," he cooed at you and came over to wrap his arms around you. "Do you want to tell me why Parker was seen pulling out of your street or should I tell you what I think?" You glanced and you stilled in Harry's embrace.
"He stopped by to talk to me." You said in a low voice and looked down at the floor. He rubbed your back soothingly and you couldn't help but think of how he was going to react.
"What did you talk about?" He asked, his voice still calm and collected as where you were not.
"I really don't want to talk about it," you told him truthfully. The last thing you wanted to do was anger Harry while you were already feeling bad. The weight of the short kiss you shared with Parker felt like it had been imprinted on your lips forever.
"I really don't care. Now tell me what you talked about." His voice had taken on a hard edge and you began to feel tears well up in your eyes.
"He has been researching some things he wanted to share with me."
"And those things would be?" He was trying to extract all the information out of you and you caved.
"He was looking up you," you whimpered as his arms tightened on your body. You snuggled more into him, hoping to placate him and make him loosen his grip but it did nothing of the sort.
"This kid doesn't know when to stop does he?" Harry said in a menacing tone. "What else did he do? I swear to you it better be the truth I'm told." You knew if you kept the kiss to yourself and he was to find out later it would just be terrible so you decided to take your chances now and tell him.
"He kissed me." Tears fell down your face as he loudly cursed. Once again you were held to his chest tighter.
"He's trying to get you to hate me! You see that don't you? He's going to get me fired so that I won't have anything to do with you!" He started to spat things of like a crazy person and you were frightened by him.
He let you go and you backed away from him as he took the vase from the counter and flung in behind you. You screamed and jumped as the vase erupted into hundreds of red shards.
"I won't let him take you from me," he came closer to you and you backed away from him.
"I know about the other girl," you told him through your tears. "I read the articles, that's why you got fired." You yelled at him.
"You know nothing!" He yelled back at you and you swore you could feel the vibrations resound from the walls from the sound. "He's not taking you away from me, I won't let him. Mark my words, nothing is going to tear us apart."
"You're crazy!" You cried and bumped your hip on the edge of the table as he reached for you.
"I just love you and I want to love you forever, please baby girl just come here." You saw a dangerous glint in his eyes and you willed yourself to stop backing up and stand still. He smiled and gathered you in his arms, holding you close to his body.
"I love you so much," he muttered into your hair and you stayed silent, pretending to find comfort in his embrace. You once did find comfort there but now disgust and hatred lived there.
As you sat together on your bed and he held you close you planned out how you were going to break away from Harry. No matter what you were going to get away from all the craziness he brought and along the way you were going to find out who this man lying in your bed was.
