Creatures lurked in the darkness. The streetlights hovering overhead were your only protection from their teeth, which you could only picture to be as sharp as blades and eager for flesh. They made you uneasy, and you were quick to make sure the Child was placed between you and Din, right in the center of the light where darkness would not have a chance to swallow him whole. The child floated in his pram and glanced around curiously as always. You knew he understood that whatever was out there was dangerous.

The walls of the buildings were covered in paint. Drawings you couldn't make out in the dim light, languages that were not all written in Basic. Everything looked unclean and unsafe. You looked over at Din, who stared straight ahead.

"We'll be fine," he said, as if he was reading your thoughts.

The Child whimpered. You glanced down at him and nudged your hand gently against the pram. "Hey," you whispered, and he looked up at you and blinked. "You heard him. We'll be fine."

He swallowed but looked less nervous. You were glad you were able to console him even slightly.

You stopped in front of a doorway. You avoided looking at whoever was standing guard at the door. You knew their eyes would be on you and the baby first. Both of you seemed to draw a lot of unwanted attention. Din was no better. His beskar was the third thing most people would look to. Sometimes, the first.

"I'm here to see Gor Karesh," Din said.

A pause. Then the door opened. "Enjoy the fights."

The fights? You walked cautiously behind Din as he stepped inside. You were overcome by the scent of sweat and the loud sound of cheering. At the center of the room sat a stage, illuminated by several dozen lights hanging overhead. Two green creatures with large snouts that you'd never seen before were fighting with large axes. A crowd of spectators rooted for their favorite fighter. In all of your sheltered life, you never knew a place like this could exist. But since you'd been with Din, you'd learned a lot, although you haven't traveled that much.

The galaxy was strange. You couldn't understand it.

You especially couldn't understand this. This violence was enjoyable? Did these people pay to watch this? You looked away from the stage, slightly sickened by the thought of watching the fighters another second.

Din moved around the stage, unphased by anything around him. Like always. He stopped at a bench where a different green creature with one eye sat. When Din sat, you sat. You tucked your hands beneath your legs and glanced at the Child, who came to a stop beside you. You were still wearing that white dress you'd worn on Nevarro. Foolishly. You felt like you stuck out like this. More so than usual.
