*3 years later*
"come on, mariah! ruben's waiting" my mom yelled. today, ruben and i were moving in together. we had gotten a small apartment by the beach.
"i'm coming, geez" i said while running down the stairs. my luggage was gathered by the door and ruben was putting some of it in his trunk. "i still can't believe you're leaving me" my mom said, holding back her tears. i gave her a hug and a kiss in the cheek. "thank you for everything, mom. i love you so much" i said. "i love you too, mariah. don't forget to call me, ok?" she said. "i will"
i then turned over towards matteo and ryan, they were now dating. i gave both of them a hug. "don't ever forget about me" ryan said. "how could i? you saved my life and introduced me to the most amazing people" i said while laughing.
"don't forget about me either, riah. i'm so glad i met you" matteo said while pulling me in for another hug. i then focused my attention to fourthgrade. he was leaving california to go stay with tia.
i gave him a hug and began crying a little. "you take care of tia for me, ok?" i told him. "of course. you're literally my bestfriend, i love you, riah."
"love you too, fourthgrade" i told him. "also, tell fuckshit and ray that i said i'll miss them" i said said. both fuckshit and and ray were in france, skating and making money.
i picked up my final bag and put it in the trunk. "you got everything?" he asked. "yep" i said while smiling. "alright, let's go" ruben said while getting in the car.
"can we make one stop before we go?" ++++ "here we are" he said. we had made it to stevie's house. "i won't take long, just wanted to give him something" i said, getting out of the car. i walked up to the door and knocked on it. his mom answered the door. "hi mariah, it's nice to see you again" she said while smiling.
"hi, it's nice to see you too. is stevie here?" i asked. "yeah, he's in his room. i'll go get him" she smiled and walked off. i waited for about 15 seconds until stevie appeared outside. "hey, sunburn" i said while giving him a hug.
"hi mariah" he responded. "i thought you were leaving with ruben today."
"i am. i just wanted to stop by to give you this" i pulled out a necklace from my back pocket. "you want to give me your necklace?" he asked. "yeah. it's actually the one i bought the day i met you" i said. he smiled and took it from my hand. "thank you so much mariah. i'm going to miss you" he said. "i'm going to miss you too, stevie"
i gave him one last hug and went back to the car. "did you give it to him?" ruben asked. "yeah, he likes it."
"look, i know this is unexpected and unprofessional but" he paused and reached into his pocket for something. it was a ring. "since we're already moving in together, we might as well make the most of it and get married" he said. i began to cry.
"so, yes or no?"
"of course, ruben" i said and kissed him. he laughed and put the ring on my finger. ruben got a call from fuckshit. "hey, nigga. did you give her the ring?" fuckshit asked. "yes, we're engaged. she said yes" ruben said. "congratulations guys" ray said, taking the phone.
"hi ray. i miss you" i said. "i miss you too. i'll see soon. don't let ruben drive you crazy" ray said and i laughed. "whatever. i'll talk to you guys later" ruben said. "alright, don't forget to invite me to the wedding so i can walk my sister-in-law down the aisle" fuckshit said while laughing. "nigga, shut the fuck up" ray said and hung up the phone. "we should probably go" i said.
he began to drive off into town. we passed through many shops and abandoned buildings. we then began to drive past the beach and it's beautiful view. i could help but think this is literally paradise...
