Chapter 12

     Ishimaru had been awake for 4 hours. The clock across the room read "5:23 am" so who knows how long it would be until Mondo woke up. He had been using the hours to actually clear his thoughts and think about something other than Mondo. For one, he didn't know how Mondo's boss would react to the sudden disruption. Ishimaru knew jack-squat about Mondo's boss. Secondly, he didn't know what happened to Lonaca after being "rescued". Where was she now?

"...Hhm... Taka!" Mondo yelled, shooting upwards from the armchair, scaring Ishimaru half to life (get it?) and practically teleporting himself over to the side of Ishimaru's bed, "You're finally awake holy shit!"

"Mondo! Slow down! How long have I been unconscious?" Ishimaru asked, wondering if he had slept through meeting Mondo's boss.

"Only a day... but still! Ya scared me shitless! ...That fucking bitch nearly killed ya!" Mondo yelled through gritted teeth, "and to think that my stupid ass trusted her... how could I have been that fucking blind?!"

"M-Mondo, bro, please," Ishimaru said, sitting up with a reassuring smile, "It's not your fault... she made that decision herself and you didn't know about it... but you still came to save me."

"... Well, that's not entirely true," Mondo said, his frustrated face having a hint of guilt, "...Right before you were to head out with Lonaca, Leon had managed to find her fuckin' diary and had snooped to the most recent page. There was an e-entry about her wanting to... FUCKING KILL YA! THAT DEMONIC BITCH WANTED TO GET RID OF YA LIKE YA WERE SOME PIECE OF JUNK!"

Ishimaru's heart dropped down into his stomach, he hated seeing Mondo like this. Ishimaru heard his own heart crack, and had to force himself not to cry from the frustration. Through the pain of his injuries, he pushed himself forwards, and wrapped his arms around Mondo's neck, embracing him.

"...as I said, you wouldn't have known, and you were still willing to risk your life trying to save me, knowing that she had a weapon that could kill be used to kill. Thank you..." Ishimaru smiled into the crook of Mondo's neck.

Mondo was breathless for a few seconds, but his mood lightened from Ishimaru's words of re-assurance. Eventually putting his arms around Ishimaru, avoiding his wings and being careful not to hurt him.

"I-It's no problem man..." Mondo said, releasing himself from the hug. Mondo was blushing, but Ishimaru couldn't see it in the dimly lit room.

     "I-... I do have two questions, though," Ishimaru mumbled, "Why did it take so long for you to get there... and where's Lonaca?"

     Mondo looked down, his words choking in his throat for a few seconds, "Leon also helped in gettin' ya outta there, not just me. We were tailin' the two of you after ya left base. He was the one that attacked Lonaca, while I used my hands to break the barbed vines n' shit..." Ishimaru looked down, only now noticing the bandages around both of Mondo's bulky hands, though through the darkness of the room they were hard to see.

     "I didn't have the heart to attack her myself... so that was the plan. He attacked her while I got ya outta there. The reason we took so long is because ya two took a sharp corner and I had to spend a hot minute remembering how to get to the 'secret' spot, since Lonaca told me ya two were going there."

     "..." Mondo fell silent for a few seconds, "...and while I was running away with yer unconscious body, Leon was supposed to restrain Lonaca and we would have her deal with m' boss... but according to that fuckin' dumbass, the cave was swarmed with bats, and when they finally left- she was gone."
