TW: suicide
The Devil crept into the hut surrounded by silence. On most visits he would've been greeted by the dark skinned belle, but not at that moment. Something was wrong- the energy in the room was heavy and uncomfortable.
"Amara?" Lucifer whispered. He was careful to not alert the other humans of his presence. The slightest murmur of evil lurking in their village sent waves of hysterics.
The devil stood out front of a make shift bedroom with a long curtain separating him from the inside. He knew that room well and all the fond memories with it.
Lucifer reached for the thick fabric and pulled it back. Hiding in the corner by the bed was Amara- a human the devil associated with warm emotions.
"Why did you ever show yourself to me?" Her voice was full of fear. Tears stained her brown skin and eyes darted all around. Her physical appearance was shambolic as if her mental state kept her from self care.
The devil felt awful. Was her behavior his fault?
"It was never my intention."
The woman's voice cracked, "Now I can't unsee it."
"Please, Amara. That isn't all I am- you know that. I represent more than death and destruction." Lucifer inched closer. "My whole existence exceeds the hellscape below us. The whole time we've had each other you've known me as a common man. And you enjoy that, don't you? Tell me I'm right, Mar. We can forget anything happened. Please."
"Don't you get it? It's burnt into my mind! The venomous face, burnt skin and black eyes. Your voice guttural and demeanor evil. It isn't the man I knew."
"But it is!"
"No. Don't say that. You're wrong, accept it!" The woman yelped, whipping out her hand holding a knife from behind her back. "Don't come any closer, I'm warning you!"
The devil's heart dropped, "Amara, what are you doing with that?"
"There's not a world I can exist in with you in it as well. I'm sorry." She lifted the blade close to her chest.
"Please put it down." He held his hands up in surrender. "We can talk things over, alright? There is no need to be rash, because you are a very strong woman. I won't hurt you."
A sob escaped Amara's mouth, "I can't trust anything anymore. I try to, but then I find myself crying at any given time. There's no help for the nightmares charred in my head."
"You can take your emotion out on me, but please not yourself. I need you here."
She pressed the knife against the soft skin of her neck. "You're a... monster. This is what's best."
"No-"
"I'm sorry, Harry." Amara shut her eyes and swiped the blade roughly against her throat.
"No!"

It had been a while since Lucifer had contact with Louis. Time was much slower in Hell, so he wasn't exactly sure how long it was on Earth. Maybe a few weeks. Could've been more.
The devil and Niall were away from the cells for a bit, both choosing to have a drink up high in the castle. Harry sat in his throne with legs crossed as he observed the damned souls down below.
"What ever happened to that mortal you were so intrigued by?" Niall decided to stand by his king, watching the city as well.
"Intrigued?" Lucifer grunted. "Hardly. I needed to borrow him for a bit, that's all."
"What did he say his name was? Lewis?"
"Louis." Harry squinted his eyes at the blonde.
The blonde angel walked over to the fireplace. There was no warmth coming from it- the logs were practically new. Niall wanted to feel the natural heat. He crouched down and gave the wood a soft touch before standing once more. In a matter of seconds, flames licked the logs. He glanced at the devil.
"You're oddly quiet tonight."
Lucifer hummed not giving the angel much attention. His mind was elsewhere. The limited amount of awareness he had was on some man outside being dragged by chains into the catacombs.
Niall huffed. "Stop biting your tongue and just say what's on your mind."
"It appears Louis is immune to my power." Lucifer gave in. He wanted so badly to hear another opinion. "Can you believe that bullshit?"
"What did you just say?"
"I can't draw out his desire."
"My king, that is impossible." Niall rushed to beside the throne.
Harry grinned mockingly, "It appears not."
"You mustn't visit the human realm anymore. It's clearly breaking you down."
"Preposterous!" The devil whipped his head around to look at Niall.
"I am serious, Harry. If such a basic stay on earth does... this," Niall waved a hand at the devil's body like there was a physical issue, "to you, what the fuck else is it doing? What's next- you bleed like a human?!"
Lucifer threw a silencing hand up, "I have no idea what the cause is yet. Not even an incling, Niall. Let's give it time, alright? If word gets out that I may be vulnerable, there will be a price on my head."
"Nobody else can seize the throne, my king. After all, God created it only for you. Why would anyone persue your death knowing that fact?"
"Because if my existence accepts death, there will no longer be sovereignty. No one with my power will attend to Hell. Everything will go to shit, Niall. The demons and dead will have re-entry to earth without issue... be able to display their evil within. Hell won't be a mere realm anymore."
Niall frowned, "I like earth the way it is now."
"As do I. We need to keep it that way." Harry got up from his seat and began to make his way out of the room. There were more significant, almost threatening things he had to deal with.
"We'll just keep silent then. Act like nothing is wrong." The blond followed behind.
The devil cracked his neck before opening the door, "And figure out what the hell Louis Tomlinson is."
