"I've heard of you, Techno." He says, shaking his hand firmly. I stand to the side, watching the interaction carefully, searching for any sign of aggression.
"So the rumors of the mask are true." Wilbur speaks up this time, and Dream turns towards him.
"Yeah." Dream says simply, not offering his hand to the taller man. The air around us becomes awkward for a few moments, and I look over the two men again, taking in their appearances.
Technoblade's hair is what really catches my eye; it's long, especially for a guy, and it's a light, bubblegum pink. Definitely out of the ordinary. His voice is nearly monotone, and it's surprisingly deep for his fairly slim figure.
Wilbur is slightly slimmer; less toned than Technoblade is. His most defining feature seems to be a yellow jumper. Not exactly the most practical, but hey, it's the end of the world.
"How long have you two been on fleeing?" I ask to break the tension, the silence shattering and lifting a weight off of each of our chests. Technoblade seems to contemplate this question for a few seconds before answering.
"Probably about a week now. We don't live that far from here. We're on our way to the Utopia." He explains, shifting his weight from leg to leg. Wilbur nods slightly, agreeing with his brother.
"Us too." Dream fills in, and the air goes stagnant again.
"I'm sorry we pulled our weapons on you two." I apologize, starting to feel bad. These guys seem really harmless honestly, and I hope we didn't scare or anger them.
"No worries. One can never be too cautious." Technoblade answers, gazing at me with such an intense look that my jaw clenches absentmindedly.
He's scary. Almost as scary as Dream used to be.
"We ought to get going." Wilbur says, tugging lightly on Technoblade's sleeve, and he looks up to his brother, nodding lightly.
"Maybe we'll see you there." Dream says, his tone nothing but friendly.
He's so genuine. Even though I know he doesn't trust them.
"We'll see. Farewell, my friends." Technoblade says goodbyes for the both of them, and Dream and I side-step to give the two more room to pass us by. They leave, walking quietly, side by side.
I look over at Dream as they disappear into the horizon, heading towards the direction of the ocean. He looks back at me, and shrugs, clearly just as confused as me.
"We should probably get going too." He says, bending down to pick up some of the things that we had left on the ground. His leg still seems a bit tender, but the small talk with Technoblade and Wilbur seems to have distracted him from the pain.
"Yeah." I agree, doing the same as Dream. Within minutes, we're off again, walking in the same general direction as the other two, yet we somehow know that we won't catch up with them.
By the time the sun sets, I can tell that we're getting really close to the ocean. I can practically smell the ocean. But maybe that's just my imagination.
Two more days of walking. My subconscious tells me, yet I don't know how I know that.
Dream and I settle in together, facing each other and making small talk under the stars. I feel myself falling asleep with the gentle lullaby of his voice, and I don't try to stop myself.
