Captain Peyton left his uniform behind when Starfleet turned their back on a people he loved, a people who were destroyed when the DMZ fell. However, Starfleet has asked him to return and lead a special project he had devised years ago to help bolster the fleets. Against his own personal feelings, he chooses to come back to help protect the Federation. Little did he expect to face his past and a new threat to the Federation within days of starting the project. Note to readers: This story was written twenty years ago. I revisited it and re-wrote it with a better eye after having published 17 books professionally since then. This is a my love letter to Star Trek that I grew up with. Any similarities to what has come out since then are coincidence. I did not add or change any of the story points or ideas in the re-write. The stories basic points are the same as I wrote them more than two decades ago.

His father is human, whereabouts unknown; his mother Vulcan. She resides there, a Federation mathematician who only occasionally bothers contacting him. His temper and his inhuman strength, along with his smarts, keep landing him in penal colonies. This latest send-up, however, may be permanent, for he was convicted of murdering two Starfleet officers who were on leave. One was a Vulcan. Sitting in a cell in a penal colony on Mars, Thrace McCoy doesn't know it, but his life is about to change--radically.

This was written for International Fan Work's Day for 2022 where the goal is to remix older stories. This is a remix of Guilty Pleasures by Queen IX. How did I remix? I actually decided to do a remix of the story based on what I could glean from the summary and tags, but my reason for not reading the story I was remixing before I did the remix was so that the two stories were as different as possible while still having that connection a remix needs, which I'm glad I did because I ended up going in a very different direction for the remix than had I actually read the story - one that was more similar to the story being remixed. As for my reason for picking this story, I was browsing through the IFD stories for 2016 and the first story I saw featured one of my favorites from Star Trek - Odo - getting fannish over stuff and Kira being involved. My story also ended up being pee-relationship for the two.
