Sweet drops of relief, the momentary weightlessness of lifting onto the toe of her point shoe. The soaring sensation of fouette turns, air stirring beneath her. I usually write stories for other people. Brave people who needed a voice. People who wanted to be heard about their own horrific and personal injustices. I wanted to show them same people my story. It is Graphic, raw and triggering. It took three years of therapy. One stolen draft and a lot of tears. This is me. This is my story.

Abuse is an issue often whispered about in corners, or hidden behind through romantic movies and music. Depicted as the new normal, very few stand against it. This month we step out out of the shadows and we shine light on this topic that often leaves us with few words to say. As we leave behind 2016 and enter into the new year. We uncover ways to deal with abuse and how to speak out. We will nolonger stand in shame but we will step out from the confines of society.
