    Cassiopeia Stewart survived the Flare ever since it started. Her parents decided that she and her little brother, Sam Stewart, would not be taken by WCKD. Instead, they raised her in the Scorch, teaching her everything she needs to know about the new terrain and how to survive.
    
    When Cassie runs into a group of boys and a girl from WCKD, she agrees to help them get to the mountains safely, as she was going there too. She realizes that the group from WCKD are not that different from her.
