Twenty-five years after the cure was created, society has yet to fully recover from the zombie apocalypse. The Cure is smuggled, bootlegged, hoarded, or hidden away - it has eclipsed the barter system. Though most of the United Mexican States have been reclaimed, Walkers rule what was once Chihuahua and most of Coahuila. Among the Survivors walk Curados - ex-Walkers lucky enough to have received the Cure, whose ruined limbs were replaced by machinery - who now make up one out of every five people. Most of the Curados have identifiable Side Effects. Some have enhanced hearing. Some can smell fear. Some have inexplicable undead strength. Some can control Walkers. Some still hunger for human flesh. Walking the grey lines between Survivor and Walker and Curado is Teddy de Santos, a Carrier of the virus. Though undoubtedly undead - with half a face to prove it - he has a rare condition: all the powers and strength of a Walker, and all the morals and intelligence of a human. Between the gangs, the military, and the desperate, Teddy can't survive much longer alone. Not while the cure for the Walker Virus is the heart of a Carrier.
