"Breaking Free" Written by Courtney Sumrall (BookWriterAlways). I've been struggling with depression for almost five years now and It's hard to pull through because It feels like I'm drowning in the darkness. Depression has made me do harmful things to myself and I have been unhappy with myself for a very long time. I punish myself every day by self-harming because I feel like I'm nothing to anyone or to the world. I feel like I'm worthless and that no one will ever like me. I wrote this poem book from my experience with depression, with self-harm and with suicide attempts. You are not alone.

Even though it happened days ago I still shiver and get goosebumps, even on the inked spots of my shin. Staring at myself in the mirror I try to assure myself that it will all be fine. I'm skinnier than I was. Still the muscles are almost the same size, even bigger than before all of this. I can see my ribs from under my skin. I touch the elephant tattoo on my side and place my hand over it like my little sister used to. Down stairs I hear that people are starting to talk, that means we are going out soon, to look for food, people, even bodies. In another world where a war gazes the country, a 17 year old girl takes matters into her own hand when her parents disappear. The city that 17 year old April lives in is surrounded by the army of the country that once wear their friends, but are now their rival, And while food sources decline, April and her friends, younger than 20 years old try to keep what is left of their sanity and help people that are left with nothing. While all of this fills the head of the young girl, a boy sneaks into her world of blood sweat and tears. This is not about love, or teens, Nor is it a sob-fast.
