The vampire seemed dazed.

Geez, the guy looked like he hadn't slept in decades.

Which was probably true. Because if you asked me, it'd be pretty hard to sleep soundly with all those murders on my hands.

I didn't trust him for one second. So I made a promise to myself that if he showed even the slightest bit of dangerous energy towards Charlie...

I'd make sure that stake pierced his heart before he could say 'dapper dan'.

Alastor shook his head and began to survey the area. His henchmen were busy doing their thing; that included the little one being in everyone's personal bubble.

"What's your name?"

"Nunya."

"Hiya Nunya! I think you're real pretty, Nunya!"

She gave me a wide smile. "Can we be friends?"

I stood back. What the hell was this girl's deal?

"Uh...sure..?"

The little girl looked to be no more than ten. "Aren't you a little...young to be working?"

"What're you talking about?"

Her voice was annoying and high-pitched.

"How old are you?"

"Twenty two."

I stared at her in disbelief. "H-huh..."

Walking away, I avoided the strange girl and stood by Charlie.

"So...do you think this is a good idea? I mean, we don't know what he's planning," I casually pointed out.

"Nope."

"Good. I'd be concerned if you did."

The red-themed vampire was still walking around and nodding, talking to himself as if he were some home designer. I wouldn't put it past him; it would have probably made it easier for him to grab a bite from his unsuspecting victims.

I shuddered at the thought.

"He seems really out."

"What do you mean?" I turned to face my friend. I knew what she meant, but I wanted to hear her theory.

"I dunno...he just doesn't...look like he's okay."

She finally looked at me, her face falling. "Is it bad that I'm kind of worried for him? What if he's hurt in some way?"

I scoffed. "You're worried about the East Side vampire overlord? He's one of the most powerful blood-sucking bastards out there. Honestly, I think he got into some drugs and is trying to function."

Anthony, by this point, had also stood behind us, with his hands on my shoulders.

"Babe, I really don't think this dude is here to help. Listen to your friend here."

I shrugged off his hands. "Get off me, hemophilic!"

"What's a hemophilic?"

"A vampire, you fucking numbskull." I laughed at him. "You're dumber than you look."

"Yeah, well...I...I got nothing."

He shrugged and gave me a soft smile that churned my insides.

"D-don't look at me like that!"

"You know, you're cute when you're irritated."

"I will fucking slit your throat. Leave me alone!"
