I kept a straight face, but my mind was reeling. Thoughts whirled through my head at a terrifying pace.

That girl.

Oh, I knew her. I knew her well. Memories flashed past my eyes as it all came together.

I must have been staring at her for longer than I realized, as she began to call my name.

"Earth to Alastor..." the woman said, pulling me out of my head. She waved a pale hand by my face. I backed away.

"Ah, yes. My apologies."

I struggled to keep myself from reacting to this new information as I glanced around, avoiding her face. I must have gone mad...but pictures never deceive.

Do they?

"Now tell me," I began, "where is your hospital staff?"

I bent closer to her as she nervously looked me in the eyes.

That familiar glow...

"Uh...well..." The girl began to explain. She pointed to her gray-haired friend, of whom had a scowl directed at me.

"Oh, my. You're going to need more than her."

I saw another man sitting on a couch, obviously bored by the whole ordeal. I walked up to him.

"And what can you do, my effeminate fellow?" I asked, thinking it was harmless.

"I can suck your dick..!"

I stood back in shock. "HA! No."

"This just won't do! I suppose I could cash in a few favors to liven things up."

I promptly walked back to the door. "I will be back shortly, my dear," I said with a wink.

As promised, I rushed around the city and grabbed help. As a vampire, speed was easy and my errand lasted mere seconds before I stood again at the hospital with two dazed humans.

"Here we are!" I said, as though I hadn't run several miles.

Charlotte gave me a confused frown. "Who...how..?"

"Don't worry your pretty head, my dear! Now," I held up a small girl with orange hair and amber eyes, wide in excitement. "This little darling is Nifty!"

Nifty waved a small hand and smiled brightly. "Hi there!"

I set her to the ground and she began to greet herself. "It's been so long since I've met Mr. Alastor's friends! You are all his friends right? Wait, why are you wearing pink? Are you a girl-boy?"

She rushed into the hospital and began to inspect everyone, still with a grin on her face. "Sorry, that was rude. Are we gonna be friends? Y'know, since you're friends with Mr. Alastor! I think."

The blonde smiled to me. "And who's this?"

Another man in my grasp, who didn't look as keen on being in my presence, growled at me. His black hair fell over his eyes and cheeks. "Get off me, son of a bitch," he sneered.

I let him go. "Good to see you too."

"This is-"

"Lemme introduce myself, bastard. I ain't no fuckin' baby."

He whipped out a bottle of liquor from seemingly nowhere and took a long swig. "The name's Husker."

Charlotte smiled wider. "Hi Husker! My name's Charlie. You're gonna love it here!"

"I lost the ability to love years ago."

He let out a grunt and shoved past her. "Christ, this place is a dump! Ever heard of a broom, bitch?"

"Now, now, Husker! Don't insult dear Charlotte!" I defended, only too passionately. "This place will be the light of the town by the time I'm finished."

Charlotte was looking to her feet. Had I said something wrong?

"Charlotte, dear, are you alright?"

"I...love it!"

She gave me the biggest, happiest grin I had ever seen. "I can't believe it! This is gonna be so awesome!"

She moved in to hug me, but I leaned away. "I'm glad you think it is satisfactory. But we have so much more to do, my dear!"

"You gotta bar here?" Husker's voice sounded from deeper in the building. "Sweet, it's still got some stuff!"

The sound of bottles clinking caught the attention of the gray-haired woman. "Wait! Hold on. First of all: why the hell is there a bar in a hospital?" She looked to Charlotte, who only shrugged with no other reply.

"And second: No bars! This is supposed to be a place that discourages drinking and drugs! Not some...nanny...froffel...hooligan house!"

"What a fine choice of words," The effeminate man spoke up. "Relax, babe. It's not like it's filled with-"

"HOLY SHIT! There's blood bags in here too!"

The man straightened and began to run towards the back before being grabbed.

"Nuh uh. You've been clean for several weeks now. Besides, that stuff is probably hella moldy."

"You lookin' out for my well being?"

"I don't want to deal with a puking vampire, prick."

I watched their conversation with a keen eye. Their interactions...

A memory flooded into my mind before I could stop it.

"Ollie, come on! It'll be fun," the young woman urged me.

"Oh alright." I said in mock defeat.

We walked down the dirt path to a clearing in the woods. The moon was bright and surrounded by dazzling stars, each blinding on their own. I faced the woman to see their reflection in her wide eyes.

It was absolutely breathtaking.

"I never saw such pretty skies in England," she began, "the New World is so beautiful. The trees, the flowers, the stars..."

She looked to me with the stars still caught in her eyes. "And I'm so glad I came, because...because I met you." Her soft smile set my heart alight.

"Heh...my mother will be worried if I stay for much longer...neither of my parents know I am outside." She began to walk away, but I gently grabbed her arm.

"Catherine. I...I have something I need to tell you."

The woman walked back to me, a small smile on her gorgeous face. "Y-yes, Alastor?"

I felt my cheeks warm in the cool night air as I intertwined my fingers with hers.

"Il y a des ténèbres dans la vie et il y a de la lumière, et vous êtes l'une des lumières, la lumière de toutes les lumières."

It's 'There is darkness in life and there are lights, and you are one of the lights, the light of all lights.' It's a Dracula quote, or rather a Bram Stoker quote.
