"Charlie, are you listening to me?"

A low, feminine voice broke through my daydreaming. I turned to my friend and gave her a weak smile.

"Yeah, sorry..." I apologized. "I'm just a little...nervous, is all."

I glanced to the studio and the large crowd of onlookers; my chest filled with panic. "Vaggie...what if they laugh at us?"

Vaggie placed a small, tanned hand on my shoulder. "If those idiots laugh, you know I'll help you."

She slipped her hand into mine. "I'm here for you. Don't worry, hun." With a wink, she gestured to the studio.

I walked into the room and was immediately hit with the stench of cigarettes. A giant green screen hung behind an elegant desk, and two people sat laughing and yelling.

"H-hi there, I'm Charlie," I held out my hand for a tall, blonde woman to shake. She left me hanging and crushed her cigarette.

"Katie Kovach," she said bluntly. "Look, kid, I don't have time for stupid girls with dumbass ideas. I have standards."

I looked around the neon-decorated room. "Oh...h-how is that goin' for you?"

Katie gave me a sinister look before scratching her long, thin, blood-red nails on the dark wood of the desk. "I don't like smartass responses, girl. Don't fuck with me, you hear?" Her voice became scratchy and deep as she threatened me.

"We're on in three!" A voice called from somewhere in the audience.

Katie immediately slid to her seat and put on a wide, fake smile. Her partner, a man with paled hair and stress lines on his forehead, stared at me. I gulped.

"Good morning America! I'm Katie Kovach!"

"And I'm Tom Tyler!"

"Today we have a special guest, Doctor Charlotte Magne!" She shot me a sharp glance.

"So, Charlotte, tell us about this 'project' you've been relentlessly pestering this news station about!" Katie ground her nails again into the wood.

I smiled kindly to the camera, preparing my speech. "Hello everyone! I have been working on a special project, as you already know," I gestured to Katie, "to fix the problem of vampires."

"It makes me so sad to see people dying every day, and no-one is saying anything!" I banged a fist on the desk, waking the snoring Katie beside me. "I have come up with a plan to help vampires become part of humanity again."

The crowd stared blankly at me.

"Well, instead of killing vampires, which is inhumane yet effective, we can rehabilitate them so they don't kill anymore." I stood up and walked to the side of the table.

"Here is my written plan. As you can see," I continued as I showed the camera the laminated paper, "it is still in a demo version and is easy to change according to the type of vampire."

The crowd still remained silent. I sighed, knowing I had to pull the heartstrings.

"Aren't you tired of being afraid for your life each night? Each time you have to go out at night, aren't you terrified of being attacked?" I asked, my voice pleading.

An onlooker called out. "Only a retard would go out at night!"

There were a couple chuckles, then a cry as a smacking noise sounded.

Katie lost her grip on herself and burst out laughing, as well as Tom and most of the crowd.

Wheezing, the gaudy woman pointed a long finger at me. "What the fuck makes you think a vampire would want to just...STOP drinking blood?!"

"Well, I-"

"You want a HELLSPAWN to stop drinking blood! What a fucking riot!" Tom added to her teasing.

"For your information, I already have a patient!" I stood defiantly and watched them turn to me, their eyes watering.

"Oh yeah? Who's that?" Katie asked in an attempt to belittle me.

I put on a sly grin and looked her dead in the eyes. "Oh, someone you might know by the name of..." I checked my nails smugly. "Angel Dust."

"The porn star?" Tom squeaked.

"You fucking would..." Katie again scratched her nails and gave him a look that promised pain. He slid away and I could see the sweat beading on his forehead.

Snapping back up, she looked to the camera. "Well, I guess you could make that hooker do anything with enough booger sugar on the loop." She waved a fist for emphasis, raising a eyebrow.

"Actually, he's been clean for three weeks now. No blood, no drugs, no fights." I raised my fingers as I counted them off.

She gave me a confused look, then smiled to the camera and holding her earpiece.

"Breaking news!" She shoved me aside forcefully. "A fight has been reported by the Crowley Diner between two vampires! And what do you know,"

Katie glared down to me. "The initial player is none other than...adult movie actor Angel Dust!"

I felt my heart sink at the name of my client.

"You must feel so stupid right now." She said in a mock sympathetic tone.

"Shit..." I muttered under my breath.

I sunk down into my seat, on the verge of frustrated tears. Katie's taunting didn't improve my mood either.

"You're such a little failure! How does it feel to be in reality again, huh?"

I finally snapped.

"Y'know what..." I started, "I'm done. I'm done trying to fight you all, because you're just going to rub me off. Well, fine!" I tightened my fists as I turned to Katie.

"And you...you're a terrible person."

"Tell me something I don't know."

"You're...you're a bitch!"

I backed away as she snapped herself to face me, a scowl pulling at her thin red lips.

"Hehe...oops."

I could almost hear her growl as she rose above me.
