(kyoko's pov)

july 30th

i tied the belt on my skirt and looked at myself in the mirror.

my father's girlfriend and his son will be here as soon as possible and i don't know what to feel about it. he told me that she is nice, and that her son is kind of distant and coldblooded.

appearantly they are also very, very rich. one of the wealthiest families around here.

him and the woman went on 3 dates so far, and have been seeing each other for the last 19 days. as my father said, the woman wanted to meet me, so they are coming here for dinner.

i made the dinner, with some help of my father.

and they will be here any minute now.

i sighed and walked to the window. right at that moment, a black car made its way to our street and parked right in front of our apartment.

they are here.

god... they really are here.

i walked out of my room to greet the guests. it's time.

as i came to the door, my father was also waiting there. wearing a clean suit. he must really care about this, really wants me to like them. but maybe that will never come true. will it?

next second i looked at the door, the 2 people entered out house.

"hello, you must be kyoko!"

a blonde woman approached me, smiling.

i smiled back softly, to not to seem rude.

"yeah, that's me... you must be miss togami"

i said, looking at her.

she was a very beautiful woman, had dark blue eyes and a light blue dress.

"nice to meet you"

she said, as i shook my head as a "nice to meet you too".

she took a step back, making me see the blond haired boy with glasses, standing there with a serious look, looking away.

"byakuya... say hi"

the woman mumbled as the boy sighed and finally looked at me.

"it's byakuya. byakuya togami"

he said as he took his hand out, allowing me to shake it.

i shook it.

"kyoko... kyoko kirigiri"

we stopped shaking hands as my dad and the woman smiled at us.

"may we eat now?"

my dad said, as the woman shook her head and we all proceeded to the kitchen.

they all sat as i served the food.

"i made the food... i really hope you like it"

i said and i sat at where i always sit.

"oh- you did?! take notes, byakuya"

the woman said and laughed, as byakuya responded with a smirk.

we all ate the food i made and talked.

to be honest, she seems like a nice woman. i guess i was just a little prejudiced. the fact that hey will probably get married still bothers me though...

"kyoko, this food was truly wonderful! nice work!"

"thank you, i tried my best"

i smiled a little at how nice she was.

"kyoko... how about you and byakuya get to know each other more?"

i knew exactly what my dad meant. he also wanted to be alone a little with the woman.

"yeah... sure. this way"

i said as i walked to my room, byakuya following me. we got inside and i closed the door.

"you live here? god..."

he said with a cold look.

"uh... yeah..."

he seems like kind of a rich snob... or is just like this because we haven't known each other for a while yet.

"when did you buy these furnitures, in the 1600s?"

he said, taking a close look on my cupboards.

"well... not my fault we aren't rich, is it?"

i said, still watching him explore my room.

"wait- you like mystery novels?!"

he said and walked closely to my desk, looking at the books i have.

"yeah, i do"

"me too!"

he was finally showing some enthusiasm.

"this one is literally my favourite novel of all time"

he said, looking at one of my favourites. it was a book written by the famous author, Toko Fukawa.

"it's a really good novel. plus, toko never fails to impress me with her work"

"she's indeed talented, but trust me, you wouldn't like to meet her in real life"

byakuya sighed.

"huh- what do you mean?"

"she's... weirdly attracted to me. such a stalker. calls me master, literally. that peasant..."

he scoffed as he put the novel back in my shelf.

"oh, that's... something i wasn't expecting. so she likes you?"

"she does, i guess. but what can i say... girls drool over me. i'm admirable, as they say"

he said, with a smirk. i mean... he isn't wrong. every girl would drool over him. he has the looks, the money... reminds me of another person that i know...

he continued to look at the other books i have, and made comments about each one of them. i recommended him some books too... glad that we found a topic to talk about. or this whole evening would just go on being really awkward.

i sighed in relief as i picked up my phone. the first article i saw on the internet was titled with... what?

"Sayaka Maizono exposed for being acquainted with a maid by her mother!"

no...no.

"what... is this?"

byakuya turned his head towards me as i realized that i said that out loud.

he peeked at my phone and saw the article.

"oh, i saw this today... such a cliché, right? it's like how it happens in kids' movies, poor maid becomes friends with famous celebrity..."

i tapped the video attached in the article. it was sayaka, sitting on a chair, a crowd watching her.

"sayaka, are the rumors true?"

a girl from the crowd said, which drew sayaka's attention to her.

"yes... it is. recently, i just had several conversations with one of the girls working at our studio, one who is my age. she was really nice, and nothing else. i don't know why people treat this like it's a crime to talk to somebody. no one should be able to have a word in who i will be friends with, not even my parents. so please, if you have the tiniest bit of respect for me, don't overreact on this. don't treat it like it's a crime."

i trembled in shock as i took faster breaths.

"i'm- i..."

"are you okay?"

byakuya said in confusement.

"i'll tell you something, but... you aren't allowed to tell anyone else. ever."

"uh... fine, go on, i guess"

"this... this article is about... me"
