“I love you G.” I heard Emery whisper in my ear as he leaned down to kiss my forehead. My eyes were closed and I could feel the warmth of his kiss spread throughout my whole body, bringing a smile to my lips. We sat under the school football field bleachers in mid-December, the snow lightly dusting the grass around us. The snow banks had been up to my knees everywhere but where we were sitting. Emery had pulled me out here to skip third period and to get away from Melanie. She was beginning to bug him a little but she was very sweet.
“Em?” I said with a questioning tone, opening my eyes to his bright hazel orbs staring at me.
“Yes?” He said a worried look crossing over his face. I buried my face into the side of his neck and breathed in his scent. I stood there for a while, nearly forgetting my question.
“So… um… you know…” I scratched the back of my head and avoided his eyes. I had never been out on an actual date before and I had never asked anyone out on one. “Aryanna is having her…. Umm…. Party tomorrow night and…” I didn’t know why but every word stuck to my tongue like old glue. I looked down at my shoes, too embarrassed to talk again. I felt him grab the bottom of my chin with his thumb and curled finger and lower his mouth to mine. I felt the electricity race through my body as I pressed myself closer to him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and melted into the kiss as his hands moved to my waist and hip. He broke the kiss and moved his head into the crook of my neck, hovering his lips just above my collar bone.
“I’d love to be your date baby.” He said as he kissed the small area of skin that would bear his mark. I shivered and then smiled with a kiss to his temple. I felt a wave of relief wash over my body as I gripped him in a tight hug.
“Oh thank god you understood what I was getting at, I thought you were going to think I was babbling and I was getting so embarrassed and-“Emery cut me off with a quick kiss to the lips.
“Now you’re babbling baby.” He said, kissing the tip of my nose. I blushed and moved around to hug his waist. We sat like that for a while, just breathing each other’s scent in the cold air. I hadn’t realized I had fallen asleep until I felt Emery shift underneath me.
I laid in a brightly colored meadow, with sweet smelling flowers growing all around me. I gripped the dirt in my fingers and ran my hand through the green grass. I looked into the sky to see the sunlight pouring through the trees. I took a deep breath and could smell a pond and a small stream nearby. I sat up and pulled myself up off of the ground. I brushed the dirt off of my black leggings and long multicolored shirt. I ran through the trees, touching every piece of bark, every leave and twig. The forest was alive and cheerful; it welcomed me with open arms. I could hear the sound of rushing water ahead of me, pulling myself towards the sound.
I reached the stream that ran into a small pond. I jumped into the clear blue water, warm from sitting in the afternoon sun. I swam to the bottom of the pond and sat there in the darkness. I swam to the top gracefully, pulling air into my lungs as I bobbed above the water. I looked on the shore and I saw my father standing there with open arms. I raced out of the water and jumped into his arms. He held me close and wrapped a towel around my shoulders.
