When Aryanna was finished with my hair and makeup, I looked into the floor length mirror. The girl looking back at me was stunning. She wore thin silver bangles around her bare wrist and a simple diamond chain around her neck. Her hair was in soft curls around her shoulders that looked like ravens feathers. The girl in the mirror was not me; she was only a shell of me. I sighed and looked at the floor. I forced the tears not to fall; I didn’t want to ruin Aryanna’s good work. I looked over at the clock; the red numbers said 9:30. We were officially fashionably late.
Aryanna walked into the bathroom with me and stood next to me in the mirror. She wore a heart shaped neckline red strapless dress that flowed out at her waist and stopped at her knees. The dress flowed beautifully, accenting her curves perfectly. She wore the red pumps that she saw at the store. Her hair was in a pinwheel bun and she had small diamond bobby pins holding it together. She looked gorgeous.
“You see Gab, I told you we’d look hot~” She said with a big smile. I gave her a halfhearted smile back, the girl in the mirror mimicking my every move. 'Her eyes lost their gleam and she had a permanent frown on her face. “Perk up buttercup, at least you can get drunk tonight and forget whatever his name is.” I pondered this; I had never tried alcohol in my life. Maybe tonight would be a good time to try some.
“Yeah, you’re right Ary… I’m sorry I’m being such a downer on your big day...” I said, giving her a small hug.
“Gabby, just promise me you’ll have some fun tonight, Okay?”
“I promise.”
The pack house ballroom was already crammed with eligible mates for Aryanna, both male and female. Classical music played softly from the band in the far left corner of the room. The room was filled with elegant looking people, dressed in black tie attire. I had only been to a mating ceremony once, Natalya and Camilla’s and I only stayed because I had to serve drinks. In the right far corner I saw a group of girls huddled around a few guys. I could sense that one was Emery and my heart sank. I swallowed all of my pride and walked down the steps with Aryanna into the ballroom.
Suddenly the classical music stopped playing and every pair of eyes turned to us in the room. I gave a small smile but I felt really uncomfortable with the attention. We walked down the steps arm in arm and when we reached the floor a path formed that lead to the dance floor. She gave me a quick hug and then walked over to stand with her mother.
I could feel Emery’s eyes burning holes in the back of my head. I self-consciously brushed my hands on the skirt of my dress. I had an idea on how to make him really jealous so I gathered every ounce of confidence I had and walked over to the group of girls. They gave me dirty looks as I walked into their little group. Four girls clung to my mate as I entered the area. He avoided my eyes and a tall blonde tramp whispered something in his ear. I looked at the two other guys in the group; one was Emery’s best friend and beta, Wyatt. The other was a Delta named Ian. I walked over to Wyatt and asked him to dance in a whisper, making sure Emery couldn’t hear us. He said yes and I pulled him to the dance floor by his long black tie.
