“Gabriella!!!” I heard my name being screeched from the devil herself. I stumbled away from my Algebra homework, glad to leave it behind. Any math in general had always been my week spot in school. I shuffled my feet against the carpeted floor. When I reached the door, I put my finger near it and I could see the static electricity jump from my finger to the doorknob. Science had always been my favorite class before English. I maneuvered myself down the ladder and ran as fast as I could with my cast on into the kitchen.

Vivian stood in the kitchen with her arms crossed over her chest. Her blonde hair had recently been dyed a reddish color that looked like she rubbed her head on a rusty tire rim. She wore a brown suit with a white blouse under it that showed way too much cleavage. The cabinets behind her were colored a robin’s egg blue. She reminded me of a robin, squawking all the time. Camilla strolled into the Kitchen, fake tears running down her face and a bandage on her nose.

“Is there something you would like to say to Camilla?” Vivian asked me. I turned to Camilla and hoped I looked as innocent as I could. I couldn’t do it, a big smile spread across my face.

“Camilla, I’m sorry you can’t win in a fight.” Her fake tears disappeared and in its place was pure rage. She glared at me, I smiled back at her. Vivian smacked me across the face. Two more days, two more days and I get my cast off and I’m going to leave.

“Don’t talk to a Beta that way, show some respect.” Vivian spat at me.

“How am I supposed to show respect when your daughter,” I pointed at Camilla with my cast, “sleeps around with guys all the time and ruins relationships?” I asked rhetorically.

“It’s not my fault your friend can’t keep a boyfriend.” Camilla shrugged.

“She kept him for two years until you showed up with the sudden interest in him.”

“Wide Receiver, funny, good looking, so what if he’s human, who wouldn’t take interest in him?”

“Wait, you’re dating a human? I forbid it!” Vivian butted in.

“But Ma-“

“No buts, I will not have our blood line polluted with their… mundaneness.” Camilla left the room, pouting. I sighed and started to walk out of the room.

“Wait Gabriella,” Vivian always used my full name; rarely did she ever use my nickname. “What happened at the school today should not have happened. Are you trying to embarrass your family? Do I need to remind you that I own this house; I control your college fund and which schools you apply to college to. I own you, and you will not make a fool of me and my children. “She grabbed the collar of my shirt, staring into my eyes. Every single cell in my body wanted to stand down but I wouldn’t, there was something in me that told me not to. She set me back on the ground and brushed off the imaginary dirt from her suit.

“If your little friend, Aryanna, does one more thing to embarrass your sister, I will forbid you from seeing her.”

“You can’t do that.”

“Oh I can and I will. I will make sure to accidently dip into your college fund to but Camilla a new car or Natalya a new horse.  I hold your life in my hand and I am not afraid to crush a little girl’s dreams.” I was stunned by her words. She had threatened me and there was nothing I could do about it.
