I woke up lying on the floor in the doorway. My head ached and my limbs felt like jelly. "Gabby, are you okay sweetie?" I heard a male voice say. The voice sounded unfamiliar, which is what brought me out of the darkness. I opened my eyes to see my father standing over me. I jumped up; blood pumping to my head and making the dizziness overflow, spreading the black dots into my eyes. I stumbled away from him, falling back to the floor and crawling away from the crowd of people at the entrance of the house. "Where- Wh-Where did you come from?" I asked. My father stepped out of the crowd and into the middle, his arms outstretched like he was going to hug me. I crawled further away from him. "I was away on business for a while Gab, but now I'm back. I tried to call you but the number must have changed." "Nothing changed except for you... you're different, I don't know how but you are..." I said, gripping the edge of a table to stand up. I looked around the room and Emery's eyes met mine. The expression on his face showed one of hurt and anger. He could tell that my father being here brought up a lot of emotions for me. "Oh My! My wonderful Mason, You've returned!" Vivian chirped. I mentally groaned as I watched Vivian grip my father's waist and try to kiss him. He smiled down at her with a smile that was unsettling. He looked at her as if she were an angel, a goddess. He never looked at her like that before. "Hello my love," He said as he brought her into a long passionate kiss. I looked away in horror and disgust. My father wouldn't have kissed her like that in public; rarely would he even do that in front of me and my stepsisters. I made a gagging sound and blushed wildly, unknowing of how loud I had been. "Father, you're home! I've missed you terribly!" Camilla broke away from my mate and ran up to my father, encasing her mother and him into a large hug. "I've missed you too Cammy, look at the extraordinary woman that you are becoming. You've even found yourself a mate, an Alpha no less." I let out a low growl which made all heads turn to me. Natalya moved over to her mother who started comforting her. "Why are you here? You've missed out on five years of my life, why don't you leave again and miss out on some more.... I mean seriously dad, I've already lost a mother and then I had to lose you too! Everyone thought you were dead, except for me! I was the only one who still had faith! Now you show up and expect everything to go back to normal! No!" I shouted at him. Camilla ran over to Emery and cuddled up to him, pretending to be scared. "Emery baby, Hold me!" She whimpered. Emery limply put his arms around her with a bored look on his face. He looked over at me. I wished I had marked him when I had the chance, then I might have at least some sort of link with him. I gave him a sad look and he returned it, almost throwing Camilla out of his arms. She huffed and ran into the kitchen. "I'm sorry I was away for so long, Alpha Lucien had put me on strict orders not to tell anyone." He said, slumping his shoulders and digging his fists into his pockets. Emery walked over to me and helped me stand up, holding my hand with a little squeeze before letting go. The warmth left me and all I could feel was where his hand had been. "I'm sorry I couldn't come back sooner Honey. I missed you terribly." He said, raising his eyes to look at me. I could see that something in his eyes wasn't quite right. I backed up, knocking into the table and turning around swiftly. " You left me alone with them, and now it is your turn." I whispered. I stood up gracefully and wiped the dirt off of my apron. I ran through the house and out the back door and into the backyard. I kept running into the woods deeper and deeper until I didn't know where I was anymore. The trees moved past me in a blur, making dark shapes around me. I ran as fast as I could until I stopped at a small clearing. I had no clue where I was. I sank to the ground and tried to bring air into my lungs. My mind was still processing all that had happened. My father was alive, he was here, home. Why wasn't I happier? I looked up into the sky and saw the large full moon. The trees swayed above me in the slight breeze. The darkness around me made them look like monsters. I walked around in the darkness, listening to the mind link.' Did you hear Beta Vender is back?'' Gabriella fainted when she saw him.'' I heard that Alpha Lucien called him back to train some new recruits.'' I heard he killed an entire army of rogues out in Hong Kong.' I tuned out of the voices and began trudging back to the house. Suddenly I heard a rustling in the bushes behind me." Who's out there?" I said shakily, holding up my hands in a fight-ready position." Are-Are you G-G-Gabri-E-E-Ella?" I heard a small deep voice ask." How do you know me?" I asked, moving towards the bush." There's a road about a half a mile from here... We were driving... She didn't even see it coming... You have to come... You have to help her..." The voice stuttered through the sentence with pain evident in his tone." Who do I have to help?" I asked as I looked behind the bush." Melanie." I gasped as a disfigured boy appeared behind the bush. He had cuts all over his body, a broken arm and leg. He was bleeding badly from a cut that ran from his forehead to his chin. He winced in pain as he tried to move closer to me."Shhhh, don't speak." I said as I laid a hand on his shoulder. I felt the light stir in the pit of my stomach and spread throughout my body. The light spread to my hand and came from my fingertips. I waited for a few minutes before pulling my hand away. In the silvery moonlight, the boy looked fine. I could tell that he wasn't a werewolf though. "What happened to Melanie?" I asked as he started to stand up. He gripped his head and at that moment I knew he was human. How would a human know Melanie? I grabbed his shoulder and straightened him up a little too roughly. He gave me an odd look and then started running. I ran after him; it only took my about a second to catch up to him. "I'm taking you to her," he huffed, clearly out of breath. "Not at this speed we're not." I said as I grabbed his arm and ran faster and faster until the boys feet didn't touch the floor. We got to the road quicker than I thought. There was a mound of steaming metal and two trails of blood going in different directions. I could smell Melanie's scent all over and nowhere at the same time. The boy sank to his knees and dug his fingernails into the asphalt. "What happened?" "I was driving her to you because she knew you were in trouble. We got here and there was a man standing in the road. He flipped the car with his bare hands. The last thing Melanie told me before her ripped the door off of the car and took her away was to run into the woods and find you. That's exactly what I did... You've got to find her..." Tears were running down his face and dripping onto the road. "We're going to get her back." Melanie The cold metal hand cuffs chaffed my skin, making them bleed. My ankles felt weighed down by chains. There was a blindfold over my eyes and tape over my lips. My head felt as if I had gotten into a fight with a rhino and lost horribly. I was sore everywhere, from the tips of my fingers to the bottoms of my toes.I was virtually senseless. I focused on my smell and tried to pin point what was around me. I could smell metal, and blood. I could smell the damp dirt floor beneath me and the cement walls around me. I could smell Gabriella faintly along with an unfamiliar smell that seemed to touch everything. Lights flickered on, shining through the blind fold. I focused on my hearing now. Footsteps came closer. A door opened. Slow even breaths came from an unknown source. "Good, you're awake," A deep male voice said. I heard water being turned on and some sort of tarp being sprayed. The water stopped and i heard the footsteps walk over to me. The blindfold and tape were removed and I was met with a bright light and a stinging face. "Ah!" I screamed and was slapped hard across the mouth. My eyes adjusted and in front of me I saw a man with no skin. "Ah!" I screamed again, scrambling away from him. I looked around the room quickly and saw that I was in a cement room. There were stairs that lead to a wooden door which looked like the only exit. There was a sink and curtain blocking half of the room. There was a bed next to me that my feet were chained to. My hands were cuffed in front of my body. "What's wrong Mel? Never seen a shifter before?" The creature asked. He smiled at me, showing off his bright white teeth that were inhuman. His bright blue eyes changed color to a purple, then to an amber, then to a deep green. I wiggled away from him and looked past him as he opened the curtain. I saw the skin of Gabriella's father hanging on a hook. I let out a blood curdling scream and was soon kicked in the gut by the tissue and bone that stood before me. "Sometimes," He paused as he walked over to the skin. "You have to air it out and wash it, or it will become nasty and will start to rot." He caressed the skin with his fingertips. "Have you ever been inside a rotting skin?" He asked and laughed at me. "Of course not," he chuckled. "Who are you?" I said my eyes unable to leave the hanging flesh. "My name is Felix, but you will call me sir." He said with a smile. His hand reached up and itched his cheek muscle. He walked over to a full sized refrigerator that was near the wall furthest from me. He pulled out a bag full of a dark red liquid .Blood. He sank his teeth into the bag and drank it dry. "I'm sorry do you want some?" He asked with a smirk. "Humans think that Vampires are real. You know, sparkly rock hard creatures with fangs and are incredibly handsome." He gestured to himself with his hand. "This is the closest thing there is to a vampire." He wiped the blood that began to drip down his chin. I flinched and moved close to the cold wall. He moved over to the dripping skin again and stepped into it like a person would step into a mascot costume. I was shocked and disgusted. She ruffled the hair that wasn't his and wiggled the skin so it would cling to his muscles more. I watched this in horror. He walked over to me and asked if I could help him zip up the skin. I did as asked, nearly gagging. "How do I look?"
