Drista opens her eyes.
She is in a dark room. The curtains are closed, and there are shelves lining the walls with glowing potions. She looks to her left, and a figure in a chair is slumped over. It appears asleep. Drista swings her legs over the bed, and feels around. She has bandages on her leg, right arm, and neck. Everything hurts, but she puts her feet down pn the ground anyway.
Pain shoots up through her body and she crumples to the ground. The thump of her body on the hard floor wakes up the figure, who is Dream. Dream stands up and runs towards Drista, picking her up and putting her back in the bed.
"You're awake!" He says. Drista smiles. "Yep.."
"How are you feeling?" Dream asks. Drista rubs her leg, which feels numb. "I'm alright... my leg and neck hurt. My arm is pretty much fine though."
"That's good," Dream said. "We can get moving early tomorrow then."
"What do you mean?" Drista says. "We've only been her for a few days."
"Oh, I forgot that you don't know what's happening..." Dream says. His smile goes away and he sits down on the foot of the bed. "Drista..."
Dream takes a deep breath, and then starts to speak. "Drista, I found a place we could live in. It's kind of a citystate in a bigger city... It's called L'manburg. I found a guy named Wilbur, or Ghostbur, because he said he likes to be called that, and he sold us a house there for a very low price. We are moving tomorrow."
Drista was in shock. Right now? Really?
"But enough about that, you are going to need some crutches so that you can walk a little tomorrow. I asked someone to pull us in a wagon with a horse, and he said yes. You won't have to walk, which is good."
Drista doesn't say anything. She is looking down at her hands, and she starts to fidget with them. Dream stands up, and pats the bed. "Well, be ready to leave soon. Get some rest, ok?"
-----------------------The Next Day--------------------------
It is early morning. Drista walks on her crutches towards the wagon, and throws her bag in. Dream follows, and pulls her up onto the hay inside. The person pulling the wagon with their horse motions to Dream, and Dream motions back. The wagon starts to move.
All throughout the day, Drista remembers. She remembers the times in the forest and in the jungle with her brother. She remembers all the times she went hunting with him, and ran through meadows with him. City life will be so much different...
Drista falls asleep on the hay, and Dream continues to look at the scenary around him. He doesn't smile or speak the whole ride.
Drista jerks awake when the wagon hits a rock a few hours later. They are in a taiga forest, surrounded by pine trees. It's about 2 pm, and the afternoon light shines through the trees. It smells crisp and light, and the sticks crunch underneath the wheels of the wagon.
The come up to a large sign on the side of the road, which reads "Welcome" in all capitals. They must be here.
And after a few minutes, the trees end.
They are on a moutain, and a path leads down it. Below the mountain is a brick house in the middle of a lake, with bridges going to it on all four sides. The lake is surrounded by bamboo, probably imported from a nearby jungle. Inside the brick house is lots of chests, and from one of the bridges, there is a farm that branches out.
The wagon is pulled down the road and past the lake. They go up hills and pass walls, houses, a church, a couple towers, a rainbow mart, and so many other buildings.
One house catches Drista's eye, however. Its a house that juts out of a small hill. Its made of stone and brick, and its breaking and falling apart. In front of the house sits a sign that says "Tommy's house."
The house seems eerie, and the chests inside are open. Food, armor, materials, and other things are scattered all over the floor. The bed is stripped clean. The doors are taken away.
Drista tries to examine it a little more, but she can't. The wagon is pulled down another hill, and her view of the house is covered up by a wall.
Instead of focusing on the abandoned house, Drista focuses on the wall that they are coming up to. The wall is huge, and is made with some sort of black brick that Drista isn't familar with. Yellow lights illuminate the brick, and an iron gate stands in front of them. The gate opens, and they enter a beautiful city.
The city is built on the side of a small hill. The grass is a faded green, and everything is made of spruce. Drista and Dream get out of the wagon, and take their bags. Drista walks up to a platform, which seems to be the plaza, or main area of the small city. She looks up, and sees hundreds of floating lanterns, each a different color, like blue, yellow, red, and white.
Below the platform lies a large lake. The support beams for the platform and the houses jut out from the water. It's full of sea grass, colorful fish, and beautiful coral. But the lake doesn't look natural. In fact, it almost looks like something blew up, and the lake is there to hide it.
Drista turns around, and in front of her and Dream stands a tall man. He is wearing a yellow sweatshirt, black jeans, and a red beanie. He is struggling to hold a large stack of paper, which is barely balancing on his hands.
"Hello!" the man says. "I'm Wilbur, but I would perfer if you would call me Ghostbur."
"Why Ghostbur?" Drista asks. Ghostbur's expression changes, and he looks nervous.
"Oh, um... no reason. Anyways!" Ghostbur motions Dream and Drista towards the stairs and up to another platform. "I am going to show you to your house!"
Drista follows Ghostbur towards a large house, and they step inside. The place is beautiful, with wood floors, walls, and furniture. The place already has couchs, chairs, and beds, which Dream payed extra for, and stairs lead to the second floor, where the bedrooms and storage are.
"I hope you like it!" Ghostbur explains. "Call me if you need anything, and have a good night!" Ghostbur closes the door behind him, and Drista and Dream are left in the house, alone.
Drista throws her backpack on the couch. "So," she said "That happened. We are here. What do we do now?"
"Well, I forgot to tell you, but I got a job." Dream says. "It's for this guy named George. It's a government job, I don't know if I will be good at it, but it's worth a try."
"Well that's good." Drista says. She slumps onto a chair. "I'm hungry. Did you hunt earlier?"
"Drista..." Dream says, "You don't know how city life works, do you?"
Drista looks up at him, confused. "What do you mean?"
"Well Drista, we don't hunt in the city. We go to places and buy food for ourselves. Sort of like the market, but we do it all the time, not just once in a while. We also don't have to stay inside past 11, because the place is lit up enough that monsters don't like it here."
Drista frowns. "Then where is all the excitement?"
Dream sighs. "Drista, you've had a lot of excitement for the past 5 years. Don't you think it's time to take a break?"
Drista looks down and doesn't say anything. Dream sighs again. "Well, get ready to go. It's our first dinner in the city, together! Won't it be fun? We can get to meet new people!"
Drista still doesn't say anything, and she gets up. She puts her sweatshirt on, and opens the door. "C'mon," she said. "Aren't you coming?"
Authors note: 1300 words! Woah... Btw, this takes place after the L'manburg war, and the storyline is altered a little bit, so that Dream isn't present in the war. Just wanted to change it up so it's more unique and exciting. Thanks for reading!
