Who was that?
Why didn't I drown?
What battle field?I shake out my legs. The gash wasn't hurting anymore. I look at the sky and see that the moon is setting. It will be morning soon. I walk towards a log next to Piper and Jason's log. They were asleep, Piper entwined into Jason's arms. I smile. They are cute together. I sit next to the fire and tend to it.
I sigh. What great memories this brings back. It almost feels as if I'm little again, running around while dad watched me to make sure I was okay. Thank you, dad for taking me on that camping trip. The skills you taught me come in handy in situations like this.
My temporary reminiscencing has been broken, unfortunately. I could feel eyes staring at me. They belong to Piper and Jason, who were both wide awake and staring at me. I shift, discomfort coming to greet me.
"Yes?" I ask.
"Umm, nothing." Jason states.
Vanessa emerges from the tent, her (right) hand balled into a fist."You're awake" Piper says as Vanessa climbs up the hill.
I look at her. Although she looks like she's trying to hide it, I make out a panicked, shocked and sad expression.
"What's wrong" I ask.
"Nothing" she says.
Something was wrong. I can see it on her face. She looks at her right hand. The thing in it looks a lot like...Paper? She unfolds it and gasps, a hand coming over her mouth. Distress. What do I do?!
Her eyes glisten, small tear drops making their way down her face. Oh goodness. What's the matter? Why does she cry? The note....
I wrap my arms around her and give her a small hug. I pull away and gesture to the note.
"Let me see" I say soothingly.
I wipe away her tears and examine at the note.
Even though I'm not with you, don't cry. Please smile, I've always loved your smile.
His face tries to invade my mind once again. I push it away.
This isn't the time to be thinking about him. Vanessa needs me.
"Where did you get this" I ask, keeping my soothing voice.
She responds with more tears.
"Why did I let him do that, why didn't I stop him?" she wails.
"Stop who" Piper asks. "
Oops I said that out loud" Vanessa mumbles. "Yes you did now why are you crying" Jason asks.
"Because l let my c-friend charge at a creepy, powerful, flying dude with a swirly face" she yells.
That guy from my dream?
Jason takes the note from me and reads it with Piper.
"Tell me where you got this" Piper demands.
"Drew gave it to me in a dream, right after he sacrificed his life to save me" she crys.
She runs into the tent. I'm worried about her. She's seen him in her dreams to? Was he trying to recruit her as well? What's going on? Who is Drew? How did she get a note from inside a dream? Something seems off. How is any of this possible? I try an mull over the possibilities, but Piper's voice pierces through my thoughts.
"I need to rewrap your bandage." she says.
"Oh ok" I reply. She goes to work tearing the old bandage off. When she took all of it off I examine my gash. It looks like a scar now. It's a deep brown, darker than my skin. I see Vanessa walking towards me. She comes closer and closer till she's right next to me.
"You awake sleepy head." I say, grinning at her. (Sleepy head? Mental sigh.)
"Yeah" she replys. (Good. She seems ok.)
"Good. Just in time to cause we are going shopping! Shopping here we come!" Jason says like a preppy cheerleader.
I chuckle and the girls laugh.
"What? did I say something funny?" I grin. We walk towards the road.
