We trek towards the road. On the way, we encounter 4 big hounds. They all remind me of Addison. Her thick blackish, purplish hair, I mean, fur. Her red, grotesque eyes.. Her long menacing talons, digging into my skin and shredding my skin like paper in a shredder.... I shudder. 'Try not to think about it..' I think.
Instead I focus on Piper and Jason in front of me. They are talking in hushed voices, but thanks to my excellent ears, I was able to make out what they were saying. Thank God that I don't have dyslexia when it comes to hearing.
"-the glow around her was faint." Jason whispers.
"I'm not even sure it was a glow. But if it was, she's very powerful."
"We can't say she's powerful yet" Piper counters. "We don't even know who her godly parent is. What supposedly was the colors of her glow?" Jason turns her head and looks Piper straight in the eyes."Turquoise." He replies. Piper widens her eyes, mouth a round o.
"what?" She whispers.
"It looked like turquoise anyways. It was sea green with a bunch of grey. When the colors mixed together, it made turquoise."
"But.... why 2 colors." Piper exclaims.
"I don't know" Jason replies.
Two colors? What glow? I wasn't glowing.
Yes you are very powerful.....The man said something about me being powerful. But what do colors have to do with, well, power?
I am so deep in my thoughts I didn't even realize that we are at the place we needed to go.
"Thank the gods that mortals have Greek cashier. " Jason exclaims.
"They have all the amount for the money wrong though" Piper points out.
"True..."We walk into the shop. I glance behind my back and see Vanessa in a tattered uniform, hunched over, reading a piece of paper. Probably the list. Jason, Piper and I made a list with all of the things we needed to get. We gave it to Vanessa to add things to it.
I look over to the cashier. She had long brown hair that is gathered in a messy bun. She had gray eyes and is wearing a shirt that says "Mama's shopping palace." She smiles at me. But it looks a bit... forced.I go down the isle and select a few snacks. Pop Tarts, popcorn, potato chips, and granola bars. In the other isle Jason and Piper are debating on weather or not to go some place. In another isle, Vanessa is collecting old shirts and pants. We got everything we need and walk up to the cashier.
Up close, I could see just how bushy the cashier's hair is. I smile at her. She smiles back, a little less forced than when we came in.
"How can I help you today?" She asks.
"We would like to buy these items" I reply. She runs our items through the scanner. When she was finished, she looked at the computer screen to see how much we owe."That will be 11 drachmas." She states.
"Only 11?" Piper asks. The cashier looks at her as if she was insane. Then a flash of realization.
"Yes, although I can see why you are confused. Mortals mess up the worth a drachma has." The cashier replies.Mortals?
Ok.
Considering her word choice, she's probably not human. She's probably considered above humans. A demigod perhaps? No.
She radiates with an immense power.
Her presence is almost as daunting as that other man's.
They're more than demigods.
I examine her again. She looks strikingly similar to the woman in my dream.
"Are you Athena?" I blurt out.She looks at me, pleased.
"Yes I am Athena."
I look behind me and see Jason and Piper discussing something next to a vending machine, and Vanessa staring at Athena in awe.
"Hello girls" She says.
She comes out from behind the counter and faces us. She examines me first. Then Vanessa. "You look more like Poseidon." Athena says to Vanessa, her face masked with disgust. Vanessa looks kind of confused and also offended by Athena's tone. She glances at me and grabs my face. She leans in so close I can see the different shades of gray in her eyes. She stares into my eyes. Finally, she lets go. "You equally look like me and Poseidon. If it weren't for the sea green tint, your eyes would be grey. The color the to colors make is... Turquoise." "Wait." I say.
"Am I a demigod?"
"Yes. Vanessa too." Athena replies in a matter of fact tone.
So, the gods are real?
And their blood pumps through me?
I sliently gulp.
This'll be an interesting break.
