Justin's POV

"She's ok. She's fine. Just taking a stroll." I think to myself. That was the only thing that keeps me going. The fact that Lily is fine. I look at the time on the clock. 6:00 p.m. Still not enough time to file a missing persons report. She has only been gone for 24 hours. She has to be gone 2 days to be considered missing in the eyes of the police. Its a stupid policy. I pace the hallway of the Waters' house. Interesting name, I know. Anyways, Lily's mom looks unfazed and maybe even...happy about this whole situation. I'm pretty sure that is not normal parent behavior. So I go up to Mrs. Waters and ask...

"Do you know where Lily is?"

She looks at me, delight painted on her face.

"No. Thank god. I'm finally rid of that no good daughter of mine."

I look at her, shock intermingling with my facial expression. How could she say that? How could anyone say that? Lily is... She's so.... I can't even describe her, she's that amazing to me.
"You look concerned about what I said," Lily's mom says.
"Yes, I am the tiniest bit concerned," I reply, sarcasm layering my reply. Is sarcasm rude?

"Well I have good reason to resent my seemingly perfect daughter. Because of her, her dad left me. Because of her I had to drink and drink to hide her foul odor. It seemed like the only logical choice.."

Foul odor? Lily doesn't smell bad. She hates body odor!
Mrs. Waters rambles on and on about what having Lily has caused her.

"She took everything from me." she whispers, malice dripping from every word.
"My dreams of being an architect, like my siblings, with a loving husband at my side."

I swiftly leave the hallway. I don't think I can stand more hatred directed to Lily. Or really hatred in general. So I head in the direction of the office. When I get there, I see Lily's dad with his head in his hands and his elbows on the desk.

"Mr. Waters?"

He looks up at me, his eyes red and tears streaming down his face.

"Oh. Justin, what are you doing here?" He says, frantically wiping away his tears.

"Oh, um, just chilling," I lie. Telling the truth may just cause Mr. Waters more pain.

"Oh. Well, Lily isn't home right now. Sorry for the inconvenience."

"Oh. That's ok. Hey, do you want to go bowling with my dad and me?"

"Really? Does your dad want me to come?" He asks, tilting his head.

I thought of all the times my dad and Lily's were chatting, laughing, and challenging each other. If anyone could cheer Mr. Waters up, it would be my dad.

"He's fine with it," I say.

Mr. Waters smiles to himself and looks at me.

"Well then," he says writing something in his notebook,"I'll be happy to come along."

"That's great! I'll just tell my dad. We are going tomorrow."

"Ok! See you then!"

And with that, I walk out the door, feeling satisfied that I have relieved someone of their pain.

Now, to relieve mine...
