Sunday was a boring day. I woke up around five am and went for a run. I continued with my painting until my arm started to hurt and read instead until dinner. It is now Monday, the day I have to say bye to my little birdy.
Before taking off the tape, I went to our spot where I had found him. Once the tape was off I held him in my hands and said goodbye for the last time. I pushed him into the air and he flew off into the early morning sky.
I watched him fly until he flew into the trees to find his family. I turned slowly with my head down and headed to school.
The day went by pretty normal until lunch. Daniel invited me to hangout with his friends. I declined not that I didn't want to get to know him, but I was afraid of embarrassing myself in front of people so, yea.
I went to the library after school to do some research for my ten page paper.
English is my worse subject. I can never learn anything in there. I know we just go over the same thing every year it just doesn't stay in my head and no teacher has been able to do that. I honestly gave up learning English concepts and just wing it and so far I'm doing better than usual somehow.
I was on my way to my car and found Daniel leaning on his truck, which was parked next to mine.
"You want to go for a ride?" He said oh so casually while looking at the ground.
"You talking to me?" I said pointing at myself and looking at him with confusion.
He laughed a little bit at my question, "Who else would I be talking to silly. Of course I was talking to you." He paused until he finally looked at me, "So you want to go? Or you just going to stand there and stare at me." He chuckled a little after his remark and left a smirk across his face.
"Um yea I'll go. Can I drop my car off at my house? I don't feel comfortable leaving it here." My dad and grandpa worked hard to fix it up.
They rebuilt a 1969 Chevelle SS and painted it a royal blue with two white stripes down the middle. It was my grandpa's and I loved riding around in it with my dad whenever he was free. I loved the sound of the motor and the feel of the wind on my face as my dad shifted through the gears.
"Yea I'll follow you there."
I parked in the garage and put the cover over it again. I don't want to give someone a reason to rob my house so I cover it up everyday, nor do I want it to build dust just sitting there. I closed up the garage and hopped into to Daniel's 2004 5-speed red Toyota Tacoma regular cab truck.
As soon as I was situated Daniel started driving to where ever the road took him. With that he started shooting off questions.
"Did you build that Chevelle?"
"No my father and grandpa did. It was more of a father son project and my father didn't think I'd be interested."
"Hmm." He paused, thinking over what further questions to ask. "What is your relationship with your parents like?"
I honestly didn't know how to respond. "Well, my father is constantly working or messing with old cars or working. Um, my mother.." I trailed off.
I didn't know how to say it. I didn't want to say it out loud because that would make it real and I'm not ready to feel that pain again. But I have to, that is the first step to dealing with pain I guess.
"You okay? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." He glanced at me for a quick second returning his focus to the road.
"Yea I'm fine. And no, you asked a question so I should give you an answer. My mother is no longer with us. She's been gone for two years now." I looked out the window trying to keep myself from breaking down.
"Oh shoot I'm sor-"
"No you're fine not a lot of people know and I'd rather not further discuss my relationship with my mother nor my parents relationship with each other."
"Ok that's fine. Want to grab a quick snack and drink from somewhere?"
"Sure I could go for some fries."
"Awesome, is McDonald's cool with you?"
"Yea that's what I had in mind actually." I love McDonald's fries. I don't care what anyone says about them I'll down two baskets of fries with no ounce of shame in my body.
"Cool what do you want?"
"Um just a large fry and a large powerade please." I didn't want to scare him with the amount of food I can eat just yet.
"Alright you sure you don't want anything else?"
"I'm sure."
With that we pulled into the drive through and he ordered, pulled around, paid, and received our order.
"Thank you." I said while taking a drink of my powerade.
"You're welcome. Want to sit at the park so I can eat?"
"Sure."
When we got to the park we stayed in his truck since it was getting dark out.
We ate our food and talked about where we worked and what hobbies we do in our free time. It was getting late, so he decided we should both go home.
"Have a good night see you tomorrow at school Ellarie." He smiled and watched me get out of his truck and head to my door before he headed for home for the night.
"See you tomorrow Daniel." I said as he drove off into the night.
