Daniel and I sat in the grass and talked for what seemed like hours. We talked about random things happening in the world at the moment, the presidential election first off.
Then we began to talk about what the future might hold for each of us and goals we had set for ourselves.
Around ten o'clock we decided it was time to go home and get some rest for school the next day. He took me home because, well I ran there in the first place.
When I got home my father and Lily were no where to be found. I didn't dare to go in his bedroom, God only knows what unholy things they would be doing there.
I went to my room and pondered while laying on my bed about what had just happened not even an hour ago. Did I really just let myself cry in front of someone I barely knew? Why am I letting my walls down in front of him?
I went to sleep then. Thinking about my feelings and actions wore me out. The next couple of days were normal. I spent my lunches in the library and worked at the coffee shop the rest of the week. I avoided my father, which wasn't hard because he got home late everyday.
I finished my painting during this week. The trees surrounding the little brook makes me think of a peaceful place to be. If I were a fox that's where I would be. Eating berries of the bushes that grew close to that water. At night I would stay in my den I dug into the ground trying to stay warm next to the cold dirt walls. Every morning I would sit by the brook, close my eyes, and just listen. Listen to the birds chirping, the leaves in the wind, and the water flowing through and crashing on rocks here and there.
But that is all but a dream.
Now that it was Saturday I needed to do something to distract me. I decided to text Daniel.
7:30a.m. Me: Hey are you free today?
7:31a.m. Daniel: Sure I'll pick you up in 30 mins.
I got up and threw on some light jeans and a sea foam colored hoodie and my gray vans. I straightened my hair and ran downstairs to only be greeted with no one other than my loving father.
"What are you doing today El?" He asked while looking at his phone without looking at me for a split second.
"I'm going out today." I looked at my watch. 7:25. Hopefully Daniel comes a little sooner. I peered out the window hoping to see his red Toyota pull up.
"Where you going?" Like you care you self ignorant douche. I'd never say that to his face though. He provides me with a house food and car what else could I ask for.
"Not sure yet. Anywhere but here." And that's the truth.
"Will you let me know whenever you get there?"
"Why are you all of the sudden so worried about me? Something happened at work that has you scared?" I shot daggers at the back of his head. It infuriates me that he still does this kind of work. He turned around to look at me.
"No nothing is wrong just want to know where you go. I barely see you anymore." He has a light sadness in his eyes. He knows I will never be able to forgive him for what he did. Especially now that he has a girlfriend.
"I'll let you know when I'll be home." With that I heard Daniel's truck pulled up and headed out the door with a slam.
As I was walking to the truck Daniel got out and opened the door for me, chivalry is still alive.
I sat down a buckled up then he closed my door and walked to his side and got in.
"So what do you want to do?" He glanced at me while he was getting situated.
"Drive around and listen to music if that's okay." I could listen to anything but metal or screamo. My ears just can handle the loudness.
"Alright sounds good to me." With that we drove off listening to Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and other singers in that same genre.
We drove around backroads until 11:30am and stopped by a drive-thru burger joint and ordered some burgers fries and drinks. We drove to the park again and sat in the same spot as last time.
"How are you doing Ella?" He asked still eating away at his burger.
"I'll be okay." I said looking at him and gave him a half-hearted smile.
"Alright. If you ever need to talk I'll always be willing to lend you an ear or a shoulder." He gave me a reassuring smile back which comforted me.
We ate in silence until we were both finished.
"Now what?" He asked me looking at me with those ocean eyes of his.
"Animal shelter? I want to get a puppy."
"Alright one puppy coming right up." He booped my nose and we were off.
We walked through the puppy cages and I stopped as soon as I saw the one.
He looked so polite with his cute green and blue eyes and his beautiful Australian Shepherd coat. Bubbles was his name and I sure was not leaving without him.
We found someone to help me adopt him. He is only a couple months old so we were unable to neutered him until four to five more months. We stopped by the pet store and bought him a bed, puppy pads, collar, name tag, food, and a cute little plaid sweater for the winter.
Bubbles is the cutest thing ever, and I couldn't wait to grow with him.
