Meredith
"Mer. Mer. Wake up." I heard a voice.
"She's tired. Let her rest." Another voice came through.
My eyes struggled to open. It was... Bright. Very bright. There was pristine white walls surrounding the room. My eyes finally fluttered open. A figure stood over me, staring right at me. He looked very familiar but my memory was still so fuzzy that I couldn't pin point it.
"She's awake! She's awake!" The figure squealed, jumping up and down.
Who was it? Where am I? Why is it so bright?
I sat up and looked at the figure, "George?"
"Mer!" He smiled eye to eye.
"Where am I? Heaven?" I was shocked.
"No, not heaven but something like that." George continued smiling. Right then, Olivia walked into the room. No, she didn't walk in. She appeared mid-air.
"Dr Grey!" Did I die too? I had a million questions in my head but I couldn't find my voice to ask it.
Another figure appeared. No. No. No. My jaw dropped.
"Meredith." The person spoke. I was so shocked that I couldn't speak at all. My heart beat for him. The only thing stopping my knees from unbuckling and causing me to fall to the ground was that I was sitting on a bed. I burst out into tears. Happy tears. The love of my life, dead but still standing right in front of me. Derek.
"Welcome home." Derek smiled. He didn't age a single bit.
I walked towards him, going to give him a big, long overdue hug. Just as I was about to hug him, he disappeared.
"Meredith. Listen. You need to hear me out. You don't have much time left. You can still wake up and go back to the hospital. Or, you could choose to stay with me, us, and leave the past behind." Derek voice came from behind me.
My heart was pounding against my ribcage, it felt like it could explode any moment. I whipped my head around, Derek standing right behind me. I looked around at George and Olivia. What did Derek mean? Why am I running out of time?
"They are currently performing CPR on you. Your heart has a minute or two left at most. You can go back now and you'll make it." George told me.
I was shocked. What nightmare is this? I didn't understand.
"Go back, Dr Grey. Go back." Olivia insisted.
Was it selfish that I wanted to stay?
"Please. No. I don't want to choose." I was on the brink of tears.
"Mer. Please. Go back." George looked at with sad eyes.
I hate this. I feel guilty if I chose. I looked at Derek. He looked non-chalant. His face showed no sign of answers or emotions that I could make a choice with. My heartbeat could be heard in my ears. I was scared. My kids. My life. Or this. Whatever this was.
"Meredith. You're running out of time. You need to make a choice within the next ten seconds or you're not going back or staying here." Huh, so I'm stuck in the in-between then.
"I'm staying." I gulped down the words. What was I even thinking? Leaving everything behind and choosing to be dead?
Olivia and George looked at each other. They were stunned. So was I. But Derek on the other hand, smiled. His eyes filled with tears.
"I love you, Meredith Grey. Now I get to spend the rest of my life with you." He gave me a kiss.
