It was rather quick that James and Jack got the bill done. Jack and Hanna's divorce paper, well that was a whole other story. Things were starting to get messy and lawyers were getting involved. It took a few weeks but it was finally signed. I was glad it only took weeks, I figured Hanna would continue to fight until she got everything she wanted. I was called to the oval soon after.
"Guess what," Jack said before I could barely shut the door.
"What's that?"
"I'm a single man. A free," he got up and started walking towards me. I decided to meet him on the seal. "single. Unmarried. Totally available man."
"Wow," I knew it would happen. But for him to actually say it was everything to me.
"I know right. Like what will I ever do with this power?"
Ha, he has power now, what was all of that before? I was thinking in my head, there was so many thoughts. Do I just say congrats and leave it at that or do I do something bold? Yolo right. I leaned in towards him and our lips met. It was like the first time again and sparks flew.
"Stay with me tonight, please." He let out a breath as he pulled away.
"I don't think that's the best idea."
"Come on Emma, no one will know."
"The staffers will know. You don't think they'd leak that less then 24 hours after your divorce you've already got a new women in bed."
"We can just say we were having a meeting."
"After hours. In the bedroom. Where are the kids? I'll make you a deal and do dinner. That we can spin to make it look like work."
"With their mother."
"I'll see you at 6 for dinner."
"Perfect." He said looking down on me. Another kiss was planted on my lips. And another and another. I was in no means trying to stop him but anyone could walk in and I needed to get back to work.
"Ok ok. We can do this later but I need to get back to work."
"Okay. Goodbye, Emma."
"Bye Jack," I said as I closed the door to the oval. Wow, I just made out with a single man. That's a new one for me.

6 rolled around. I cleaned up my desk and put some files in my purse. I needed to finish up some work when I got home. I headed towards the residence. I got there and couldn't find the president. I decided to give him a quick call,
"Hey. So I'm in the residence for our work dinner. And POTUS isn't here. How am I supposed to work and eat if the work isn't here."
"I am on my way, Emma. You think I would stand you up. I could never. I will be there in less then 5. You sit down and pour me a drink."
"Okay see you soon then."
I sat down and pour us each a glass of wine. I pulled the files out because I wanted to look somewhat normal and fill this lie. Although we technically didn't have to lie. It wasn't an affair anymore but the day after the divorce papers are signed he is with me would be a bad press optic. I had a few speeches to go over so I pulled those out and started reading. Marking things that needed to be changed or that the president would need to go over before saying.
"Hi," I heard behind me. I turned in my seat.
"Hi," I gave a soft smile.
"What are you doing?"
"Work, I told you this was a work dinner."
"Okay well let's eat then you can finish this."
"What are we having?"
"Chicken alfredo, salad, breadsticks"
"Did you bring Olive Garden?"
"Technically no, it's made by my chefs just will taste like if not better than Olive Garden."
"Very good and this wine is perfect."
"Yes, great choice. If you're ready I'll have them bring out the food."
"Sounds perfect."
"So what were you going over?"
"Just a couple speeches and a few press release granted nothing changes but that would be easy to add. I was going through and marking names or things that I thought needed to be changed before you say them."
"Always working."
"Work dinner. Two parts to that statement, work, and dinner. We will have to go over it after we eat especially because I need them finalized in the next couple days. We also need to talk about some re-election things. we will have to change some photo ops, you think it would be fine with just you and the kids?" I said looking towards him. The chef had brought out our food. I started serving myself.
"Okay. Whatever you need to make the next couple weeks smooth. Yeah, I think they will be fine with that. The divorce is still pretty fresh on them so let's not spring it on them to quickly. It will be a weird single dad optic but it might work." He was also starting to put his food on his plate. Both of our glasses were empty so I filled them both up and got a nod of thanks.
"Making my job smooth. I think lately you've been doing everything but... I wouldn't say single parent more like co-parent but whatever works I suppose."
He placed his hand on top of mine. "You're right and I can't apologize enough for making this hard on you."
"It's not about me.... well it kind of is but not really."
"Then what is it about?"
"The kids, for starters. Hanna knew it was coming but to spring it this quickly. The country, you broke their trust. Even though they don't know about us. They will and what do you think they are going to say about us. That I'm some slut that slept my way to the top."
"I know but it's not like I'm leaving the kids completely. And Hanna wanted this as much as I did. As for the country... well we will find out their true response during the election. I would never let them say or do anything to or about you. I don't care what they say because you and I both know it's not true. And frankly, I think that is all that matters."
"What do you think my family will say."
"Well you're grandma already knows and she's been nothing but supportive so you'll have at least one person on your side. And from what I remember your dad was a big fan of me. So hopefully things won't go to bad there."

I finished my second glass of wine and went for my third.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. I guess I'm just stressed. It's my job."
"I know. But everything will work out," he kissed my hand. And we started eating. Making small talk along the way.
