"Daddy!" Anaya shrieked in delight when her baby saw Declan that morning.
"Princess." "Morning, baby girl."
"Whatcha doin' here, Daddy? Whatcha doin' here?"
"Wanna eat breakfast with you."
The last months had been a roller coaster.
Searching for Anaya's father, telling Declan about her daughter. And now, she and Declan just slept together.
Napabuntong hininga. It still felt like they were going too fast. But it felt right.
It was a quick decision, but it also felt right.
"Momma!" Namimilog ang mga mata ng anak. "Daddy's gonna eat breakfast with us, Momma!"
Ngumiti siya sa anak. "Yes, baby. Let's eat."
They had arroz caldo, freshky baked pandesal, cheese, butter, coco, mango, mandarin and strawberry jams, hot chocolate and slices of banana, mandarins and mangos.
"Daddy, Daddy, try this! Try this!"
"No, baby, I got it."
"It's from here, Daddy! We harvest cacao last...last..." Nakangusong bumaling sa kanya ang anak. "When, Momma?"
"One week ago, baby."
"One week ago, Daddy!" Ngumisi ang anak. "Taste good!"
Agad uminom ang binata ng tsokolate. "Yeah, Princess, you told me about the harvest the day itself. And yeah, tastes good."
"We got chocolate, Daddy, and coffee and fruits and milk and...and...and...this cheese! Ate Sha-sha and me will make cheese and butter, Daddy! Tomorrow! And candles and soap and shampoo!"
"You make shampoo here?"
"And-and medicine, too! From the bees!"
Nakangising bumaling sa kanya ang lalaki. "Medicine?"
She could just sit there and watch her baby and Declan all day. Declan with his warm hazel eyes and golden bronze skin, her baby with her curly hair and wide smile.
"Propolis," aniya, "and other honeybee products. They have antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. But we don't have cancer and HIV cure here, I'm afraid."
Humakhak si Declan. "No shit, sunshine? You're like a mini-country here. You got everything. Even got rainwater harvesting ponds for the rice fields, saw them when we transplanted the seedlings."
