*Bip! Bip! Bip! Bip! Bip! Bi—!*

I look at the time, five in the morning. I didn't sleep that well, it might be hard to do my jog today. Eh, whatever, I'll still do it. I toss my blankets aside and sit on the side of my bed, waiting for my eyes to fully open. I get off my bed and fix it right away. I go to the kitchen and see a paper my father left for me.

"Good morning Max, I left some hot bacon wrapped in aluminum on the counter for you, I probably won't be back until tomorrow, take care.
Your Father"

A smile appears on my face. My father is usually not a very affectionate person, and he rarely shares with others and when my mother died, three years ago, it got worse. But lately, he's been showing more and more affection towards me. Just him thinking of leaving food behind for me warms my heart.

I eat the bacon, get dressed, and leave the house for my morning jog. The same route as always, about seven kilometres in about thirty minutes or so.

There doesn't seem like a lot of people are out right now and the air feels great this morning. The fresh air hits my skin as I run at a steady pace. The sun isn't fully out yet, but it's bound to be soon. I'll never get tired of this feeling I get every time I go running outside in the morning. I feel free of all my problems while running. It feels great.

After two laps of my route, I stop and head back home, like usual. The streets feel alarmingly empty, with not a single soul in sight.

I'm immediately contradicted the moment I turn the corner of the next street. A single person is standing close to my house with their phone in their hand. As I get closer, I notice that they have long brown hair and quite a feminine figure. She doesn't seem too tall, quite small actually.

"I would say that she's probably around fourteen due to her height, but considering the time, she might just as well be my age," I think to myself.

The closer I get, the more I feel like I might know this girl. When I get close enough to the point where I can see some of her facial traits, I slowly realize who this girl is.

"...Katy?" I ask out loud.

The girl slowly raises her head from her phone to look at me. Katy's skin looks pale, her eyes have a depressed look to them and she has a jaded expression on her face.

"...Hey..." She murmurs, trying to wave at me but she gives up as she seems to lack the strength to do so.

"Why are you here at this hour? Are you alright?" I ask, worried about her.

She's shivering under her black shirt so I take off my red and black vest and put it on her for her to wear it.

"No thanks, I'm go—" She tries to protest but immediately gives in and puts it on. "Thanks... But yeah, I'm alright. Although the explanation to this is uhm... A dumb one I'd say."

"What's up?" I ask with genuine concern.

"Well..." She begins as she scratches the back of her head a little. "I was feeling kinda lonely from not seeing anyone this weekend and I... also kinda missed you..."

I look at her with a smile as I shrug and say, "I wouldn't say that's a dumb reason, I'd say it's a cute one, to be honest, but that's just me."
