It was the day before the former seventh years were supposed to return for their eighth, and a lot had changed. The formerly frail boy in trainers was no longer. Harry Potter, having to learn how to cope, found exercise to be a good way to channel his feelings. After weightlifting, karate, bojutsu, and keeping up with his flying, he was quite buff. The formerly skinny frame had been improved with a six pack, muscular legs, ripped biceps, and a few tattoos. Along with the changes in his body, his style had changed too. What was once unmatched, loose hanging clothing had now been replaced with tailored trousers, everyday dress shoes, button downs, long sleeved and short, with the occasional sweater or sweater vest. What once was a lean, bit of a mess boy had turned into a muscular, well dressed man. And this was quite the shocker for Ron and Hermione.
This summer Harry had avoided his friends, they were grieving and he himself needed to as well. He still hadn't recovered from Sirius's death, much less all the others gone along the way. And so he retreated to 12 Grimmauld Place. He had started renovations, worked on himself, and now that it was time to return to Hogwarts he felt whole again.
"Bloody hell mate!" Ron said in shock as he looked at the man standing in the doorway to the burrow. "You look great, Harry."
He smirked as Ron took in his new appearance. He had even gotten a haircut, taming the usual rats nest.
"I agree" Hermione greeted, peaking out from behind Ron. It was good to see his friends again.
"Thanks, mione" he said widening his smirk into a full smile. "Good to see you too Ron" he explained as they welcomed him inside.
They now sat at the dining table, Harry's trunk having been discarded in the living room. They had gone unnoticed by the rest of the family which he didn't mind, the swarming attention was still a bit much for him, even if it was from his adopted family.
"So, how have you been Harry?" She asked, still taking in the new clothing and physique.
"Well, mione, Grimmauld Place is finally coming together and as of mental health, it's been better than it has in a long while" he finished, making sure to eliminate any remaining worry as fast as possible.
"Oh good, I was worried something else had been keeping you from visiting."
Despite Ron and Hermione's relationship not lasting long, Hermione remained at the burrow, she was too, family and it would be strange without her.
"Glad to have you back" Ron added, trying to stay afloat in the conversation.
After Ron's final attempt to be involved, a series of footsteps cascading down the stairs became more noticeable.
"Harry, is that you dear?" Mrs. Weasley called turning into the kitchen, "My goodness, look at you!" She exclaimed happily making her way across the room with open arms.
"It's good to see you too, Mrs. Weasley." Harry replied, accepting the hug. It felt good to be back.
"Quite fit now, are we, Potter" a second voice commented, coming from the same direction as Molly had moments ago, Ginny.
Harry and Ginny's relationship hadn't worked either, it wasn't the same anymore. What was once a romantic spark had faded into sisterly love, and that by no means was very attractive. Luckily, the feeling was mutual, and no feelings had been hurt in the breakup.
"Ginny" Harry said, pulling away from Mrs. Weasley's embrace, and glancing around the room for the source of the voice. He found her leaning against the wall at the base of the stairwell.
"I thought you weren't coming back! Turns out you were to busy at a muggle gym!" She smiled brightly, taking Harry into her own arms. "It's good to see you, Harry."
He took a sigh of relief after recieving the assurance that the breakup really hadn't strained their relationship as friends. "It's good to see you too, Ginny" he said, assuring his happiness with a wide smile of his own.
"Look at you all buff and matching" she chuckled, enjoying his flustered reaction.
"Is it really that noticeable?" Harry said, blushing at the praise of his new appearance. If this was how school would be he now regretted getting his life together.
"Mate, your biceps are two inches thicker and I can see the outlines of your six pack through you polo shirt." He joined Ginny in laughing at Harry's red cheeks and lack of comments. "Is that also a tattoo I see on your wrist?" Ron questioned, glancing at the stick like figure that had been inked to the surface between his palm and forearm. It was only an inch long, but in stark black ink making it quite clear.
This sparked a conversation because Harry had more than the small line on his wrist, one of them being quite large and very meaningful.
"One of my few, yes" Harry said nonchalantly, causing everyone's eyebrows to raise.
"Few! What has happened to our Harry Potter!" Ginny exclaimed giddily, looking forward to seeing the rest.
"Well don't be shy, I for one am very interested in what they are, where they are located, and the stories that come with them." Hermione explained calmly, leaving the others around them, including Mrs. Weasley, nodding furiously.
"This one, for starters..." Harry began, sticking out his left wrist face up, presenting something with a similar shape to his wand, "is where I store my wand when not in use" and with a swift movement from his right hand over his left, his wand soon rested in his hand. "After getting the tattoo, I dabbled a bit in transfiguration and figured out how to make this work" he said confidently, enjoying the looks of shock and awe he was witnessing.
"Blimey, mate! That's incredible!" Ron said, grasping Harry's wrist, admiring the intricately shaded ink on his friends wrist.
"As fascinating as this one is, I do believe I was promised a few" Ginny smirked, while looking around the rest of Harry's exposed skin, hunting for another mark.
"Ah yes, permission to remove my shirt Mrs. Weasley?" He asked in an attempt to be respectful.
"Of course, Harry." She said distractedly, intrigued at what could lay under the fabric of the polo shirt.
Not wanting to keep them waiting, he swiftly removed his top.
